Education is often seen as the key to unlocking a brighter future. It is the foundation upon which our society is built, providing individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. However, beneath the surface lies a power dynamic that can undermine the very foundation of education - the teacher-student relationship. This in-depth power dynamic is often overlooked, yet it holds immense significance in shaping the educational experiences of students. Today I will take a look at the in-depth power dynamic found within education systems and how it reveals that the teacher-student relationship undermines education and perpetuates inequality between teachers and students I will first go over the effect of power dynamics on student performance, then I will discuss how teacher bias can impact student performance, and finally I will examine methods regarding fostering a more positive student teacher relationship 1 : The effect of power dynamics on student performance Teachers are in the position of power, select the teaching materials, learning activities, ways they include students in learning. UC Berkeley - powerless are more likely to experience negative emotions, pay attention to threats more, and behave in more inhibited ways. Teachers can force their opinions and not allowing students to speak up / teacher dependent (bad teacher : irritability, anger, punitive control and punishments, frustration) 2 : Teacher bias on student performance Teacher expectations, stereotypes, and prejudices on certain individuals or groups can influence student achievement eCampus news: in the classroom, the teacher can be viewed as a god; can be benevolent or malevolent and controls everything 3 : How to foster & improve the positive teacher student relationship Although negatives of the student teacher power dynamic, imbalance of power is still accepted and necessary create a learning environment; respect built between the student and teacher. Practicing accountability in society helps neutralize the effects of being in power Empower the powerless to improve mentalities APA: active learning and listening, providing feedback, and valuing perspectives to build trust and respect Conclusion: Teacher student power dynamics are a byproduct of the hierarchy found in personal and professional relationships in life. Today I took a at the in-depth power dynamic found within education systems and how it reveals that the teacher-student relationship undermines education and perpetuates inequality between teachers and students
