Gain a broad understanding of developmental psychopathology fundamentals. Evaluation: I was able to thoroughly understand developmental psychopathology through the readings, presentations, and use of media around us. I was able to get a better understanding of the topics this way, as I was able to see the material we discussed in real-life situations and cases. Reflection: I feel as though I gave myself sufficient time to understand the material prior to coming to class so that once in class, I could focus on filling in the gaps and bridging the text to reality. Explore symptom presentation, diagnosis, epidemiology, and life course development in psychopathology. Evaluation: Similar to my point above, I was able to thoroughly understand developmental psychopathology through the readings, presentations, and use of media around us. Study the treatment of selected forms of psychopathology during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Evaluation: Understanding the complexity of each disorder we discussed was important for me, especially when looking at my career path. Each person’s and disorder’s course of treatment varies due to various factors. I feel like I should have delved into more personal research to examine these treatments used for specific disorders, particularly those that may not have been mentioned as strong options in our text. Reflection: In the coming semester, I should look into things that may pique my interest and explore more on topics I may not have answers provided directly to me by the text. Develop advanced professional writing skills at the graduate level. Evaluation: I feel as though every year my writing has improved and hopefully it will continue to improve with the following semester. Practice makes perfect as they say. Reflection: I think I need to provide myself sufficient time and proper feedback from others to truly improve my writing skills, while also being content with the result of my own work. Learn to create and deliver graduate-level group presentations effectively. Evaluation: I enjoyed everyone’s presentations and felt that our presentation delivered at a graduate level. Reflection: Although I was satisfied with the content and performance of the presentation, I may need to practice more on time management and having the presentation completed within the allotted time. Practicing the presentation and timing myself as I do this may help resolve this issue. Embrace feedback to enhance the quality of professional work. Evaluation: I think that I have met this goal, as feedback is crucial in life and I
have tried to better my work based on the feedback given to me. Reflection: This course provided many opportunities for feedback and although some classes may not require or state it on the syllabus, I may begin asking professors and even coworkers to provide feedback so that I can better my skills. Foster a supportive professional community dedicated to the well-being of individuals and families. Evaluation: I felt that the discussions, comments, and questions were always respectful and open-minded. I felt that having peers that brought insight helped fosters such a supportive and professional environment as a whole and I contributed to this. Reflection: I feel that if a course I were to have is discussion heavy, it is important to hear the reasoning and thoughts of others, even if you do not necessarily agree with them because you may learn or understand something new about the individual/topic. Attend all class sessions and individual meetings with the professor. Evaluation: With the exception of missing one class due to being sick, I did attend all sessions and meetings this semester. Reflection: If I am sick, I should call out to keep my peers safe and keep in mind that going to class can be beneficial for understanding topics and seeing new perspectives. Actively participate in class discussions. Evaluation: I did actively participate in class discussions and felt that my thoughts were appreciated and this feeling was reciprocated from me to my peers. Reflection: I think it is important to listen to my peers and offer my insights as well, giving each person sufficient time to discuss their thoughts and insights. Arrive on time for class. Be punctual! Evaluation: I was able to arrive on time for the majority of the classes, with the exception of a few. Reflection: I should leave my apartment at least 15-20 minutes early from my class so that I can arrive to class on time. Show kindness and respect toward all classmates, recognizing and appreciating their diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and beliefs. Evaluation: I feel like I was able to achieve this goal and found it wonderful to listen to the various backgrounds and perspectives of my peers, as I felt as though I was learning about the topics in a different light. Reflection: As mentioned previously, I think it is important to listen to my peers and offer my insights as well, giving each person sufficient time to discuss their thoughts and insights. The appropriate utilization of tone and kind words should be used to address my classmates so that I can show them respect. Prioritize my physical and mental health throughout the semester, following best practices for a healthy lifestyle. Evaluation: I feel that this goal was not met as I have much to improve on. I am working on fixing my eating habits so that I have at least one meal prior to class and am trying to be more consistent in giving myself a break/time to breath and
