Box 12068 Capitol Station Austin, TX 78711 (512) 463 – 0114 (Tel) (512) 463 – 5949 (Fax) Dear Senator Sarah Eckhardt: I am reaching out to formally endorse the Montessori approach in educational settings, specifically regarding adopting a pro-choice orientation. Integrating pupils of differing age groups into one classroom environment encourages individualized learning at an optimum pace while also promoting a collaborative spirit that sees children aiding and supporting each other. This policy is both compelling and highly effective when deployed judiciously. The educational approach of Montessori is centered on the complete growth and development of a child, with its goal being to equip them for diverse experiential undertakings throughout life (NAMC, 2021). It has been observed that students tend to learn more effortlessly when in the company of their peers and are not under excessive self-imposed pressure. The Montessori approach is a highly commendable method that would receive help from wider implementation in educational institutions. It has been proven to effectively cultivate the intellectual curiosity of each individual child, which later leads to their holistic growth and development. Moreover, it emphasizes the need to identify job opportunities catering towards children's innate interests as pivotal for optimizing their personal capacity-building endeavors. By adopting this philosophy into our teaching methodologies, we aspire toward developing students with artistic flair and boundless 2

The founder of this institution, Dr. Maria Montessori, kept the view that children should be treated with deference and that they have an inherent fondness for acquiring knowledge (NAMC, 2021). The Montessori method employs a hands-on learning approach that promotes an environment like one's home rather than a typical classroom setting. The physical space is designed with accessible and adaptable elements, including low-height sinks, tables, and shelves filled with resources for independent exploration based on individual interests. In contrast to traditional education models that often prioritize uniformity over personalized teaching styles or individual preferences, certified Montessori teachers receive specialized training aimed at fostering students' love of knowledge through practical experimentation-oriented methods. According to a study conducted by Çakır and Yalçın (2020), pre-service teachers observed favorable outcomes when implementing the Montessori method in STEM education. The classroom experiment yielded positive results not only in fostering social cohesion, comprehending concepts but also improving small motor skills of children. Many theorists advocate for learning through play which is what happens with Montessori approach being incorporated into classrooms; it has been found effective even for learners on autism spectrum. Children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) benefit from the Montessori Method due to its interactive, calming, and sensory-rich environment that supplies consistent safety. The heart of this approach is recognizing that each child learns differently at their own pace. Through structured classrooms designed for independence building, specialized skills are cultivated in children allowing them greater self-sufficiency (Mindful & Modern ABA Therapies, 2023). 3
