Infant /toddler observation Maritza Ayala Child development 111
Anecdotal record #1 Physical Development Date: Monday July 24, 2023 Time: 9:30am-10:00am General site: In a classroom with children the ages 8 months to a year old. The teacher created an art activity, she put a canvas in a gallon sized ziplock bag and filled the top of the canvas with paint. She had 4 children sitting at a table and placed the canvases in front of them. The children were patting, squishing, rubbing and throwing the canvas. Once the children were done the teacher opened up the ziplock bags and took out the canvases carefully and placed them out to dry. Interpretation: This observation connects well with the Physical Domain. The children used a lot of hand and eye coordination and moved the paint around on the canvases. General reaction: Observing the children as they use their senses to explore the canvas, ziplock bags and paint, was a nice experience. There was so much the children could do rather than just move around the paint with their hands. Seeing their masterpieces once it was all dried up was so adorable. Anecdotal records#2 social development Date: Wednesday July 26, 2023 Time: 11:00am-11:30am General site: The setting is in a classroom where it is focused on a little boy and a little girl. I've noticed how the little girl looks a bit shy and very quiet sitting on her own while the little boy next to her is very playful. Once the teacher sat down with both of the children they began to interact with the teacher playing blocks and cars on the floor. As the teacher repeated
saying “ 1,2,3 woah” while moving the toy car I noted that she was very playful and excited and the children did the same thing with the car and said “woah” very excitedly. Within those relations a new little girl came along and sat next to her to see the teacher playing with the toy car. The teacher walked away after playing with them for 5 minutes. The little girl continued to play with the little boy and girl while saying “woah” when moving and playing with the toy car. She even went around with the other kids to show her yellow car and show her teachers as well. Another social activity I’ve noticed is when she saw the teacher playing color blocks on a table with childrens around the table she went over and started socializing and playing with the color blocks with them. She was very interactive when playing with the color blocks with the teacher and the little kids. Interpretation: this is an example of social development skills since her behavior shows how she was shy at first sitting alone playing with the blocks by herself and then began to play with the other children once the teacher began playing with them creating that relationship. Which until that moment when the teacher started playing with her gave her the boost to interact with others around her. This shows how she slowly was able to develop and perceive herself as she was able to gain skills to communicate with others and process their actions. These skills have helped her participate in playing with others. For example, in chapter 11 where it focuses on how in social skills “ a child’s first teacher can play a major role in the development of social skill” (page 236). With this statement I agree because it helps childrens interact more with others and socialize better as they begin interacting more in the early stage. General reactions: in this video I’ve learned a lot about the children's development skills in how they respond socially. During this video I noticed how it can take time for each child to discover a lot about themselves and interact with people around them. I've understood it can
