Status 1 Status 2 Status 3 1. Describe three statuses that you occupy in society. I am a cosmetologist and I work full-time. I work five days a week for a business (Ferris, K., & Stein, J., 2022). Student is my second status because I am in school full- time for my bachelor's degree. Students are described by how they are enrolled in courses at a school ( Society and Culture Status and Roles Summary & Analysis | SparkNotes , n.d.). I am a daughter. I am a female in my family of six. The hierarchy is based on family structure (Ferris, K., & Stein, J., 2022). 2. Identify whether each status is ascribed or achieved. This is an achieved status. This is an achieved status. This is an ascribed status. 3. Explain what the role expectations are for each status. Being an employee I am expected to carry out my duties and fulfill each task given to me daily. As a student I am expected to be prepared for all courses, have all the materials needed, finish research and school on time, and be respectful and responsible. As a daughter, I am expected to be responsible for my parents, respect elders, help with different house duties, and manage all other responsibilities. 4. Provide one example of role conflict. Some personnel may experience burnout or poor performance as a result of having too many or too complex duties to do within a certain time frame or with inadequate resources. An example of role conflict for a student can be in school and running late for work or vice versa. An example of role conflict for a daughter could be having to take care of her parents, but also having to work full-time to meet all necessary needs. 5. Provide one example of role strain. As a student, work can seem like an overload. Working full-time and being in school full-time can be a lot if not done in a timely manner. As a daughter, role strain can be doing all the housework and always feeling like no one else helps and no one appreciates what you do. Role stain for a student can be having a conflict outside of school and not paying attention to your school work. 6. Provide one example of a status that might be subject to social inequalities.
