Listening to all of our guest speakers throughout this unit has made me so much more grateful for my mother. Hearing about how much pregnant women go through and how the baby develops during the pregnancy was very interesting and seeing the product of that, the babies, during Baby Day made me realize that everything they go through is worth it. Holly and Mrs. Ceplina were incredible guest speakers who didn’t hesitate to tell us everything about their pregnancies. Since neither of the moms were first-time moms, they had an idea of what to expect and they shared how their pregnancies differed. I admired how much patience Holly had when dealing with three young kids and telling us about her pregnancy at the same time. I hope that I can be …show more content…

Although some of the stories she shared were very scary and sad experiences, she sounds like she would be a phenomenal nurse. One story that really stuck out to me was the mom who suffered from depression while she was in the hospital, and Dawn gave up her lunch break to take her to the cafeteria, talk with her, and then take her outside to the garden. This act of kindness clearly made all the difference to her patient, and it shows how much Dawn cares about her job and her patients. Some of the stories, like when a patient’s baby somehow managed to escape from her uterus and was in her abdomen, were just as strange as they were scary. I can’t imagine going through something like that or being the nurse that has to care for the patient. Although things like that can make pregnancy very scary, the way Dawn explained how the parents react after their babies are born sounds like it would make the whole process worth it. And even though Dawn would have to deal with those medical issues, she also gets to witness a very important event in her patients’ lives. I give Dawn a lot of credit for being able to do the job she does, and I hope that when I have kids, I can have a nurse who is just as kind, patient, and understanding as she is.
