Benefits Of Genetically Modified Organisms

Disease resistance, nutrition benefits, population growth, and environmental damage or should I say the causes of Genetically modified organisms. Genetically modified organisms are better known as GMO’s and can be defined as living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through GM (genetic engineering) (“GMO facts”). This technique for crop management has been introduced to ensure farmers and merchants are able to improve crop or food quality in a more efficient way. Some people argue that this technology will help those in the agricultural industry decrease the amount of wasted crops and foods (“27 Big”). According to the HRF there is a big debate about the use of genetically modified organisms and their use in food (“Pros and Cons”). There are many advantages and disadvantages to genetically modified organisms in food, but in my opinion, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
There are many advantages to the use of GMO’s in our food, both to the body and the environment. The first advantage is they are more resistance to pest and diseases. GMO’s act as a vaccine for plants and animals. “ A report from the University of California in San Diego states that toxic bacteria (yet safe for human use) can be added to crops to make them repel insects (“27 Big”).” This allows for more production and better quality.
