Brian confrontation of the fairs and stress of university On the first day of arrival to this university, Brian was late for class which made things worse for him. Due to the fact that he couldn’t find his class, and did not know any one, when he do arrive at class, it give a bad impression on him on his first day to the professor. This is an essay quoting the guide line through college and some of its fairs and how to confront them. (1)Make sure to attend the college orientation, this way you will learn much more about the institution before starting classes and will make things easier for you on the first day. (2) Students will get stress, because this is normal norm so most importantly don’t stress about being stressed: this may seem irrelevant or foolish but when your stress, its feel like you’re on edge and the best way to deal with this is not to stress over the problem but accept it and try to alleviate the problem.

It is important to know how to manage stress in academic life as it is learning about how to balance work and academic life. It is also important for students after graduating and creates self-awareness such as weakness in them.
In the essay “Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here” by Mark Edmundson, he shares a conversation with his father. He shows you the realities of college that you may or may not realize before you step on to campus before your first day of class as a freshman. Throughout the essay, Edmundson gives tips and points on how to get through college.
Fortunately for us the human brain and body have been adapting to stress and are now evolved enough to know how to cope properly. Our bodies begin handling stress as soon as it is detected with a “Flight or Fight” response (King, 2014) and determines what to do right away. However, if the stress is too much for the body to handle it may lead to psychical or emotional trauma, which can cause PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Now I am not suggesting that college will give you PTSD but, I am allowing insight to what would potentially happen if one gets too stressed out. It would lead not only to PTSD but also eating disorders or sleeping disorders. The best option for dealing with stress in college, in my opinion, is what psychologists call Emotion-focused coping. Colleges today are chock full of stressors, so in the little down time that us students (and teachers) have we must find a way to cope. For example, I personally joined the schools all woman’s choir, and I work out. But if those two things just don’t seem to be right for you that is perfectly alright because there are many other options. Dr. Richard Lazarus and Dr. Susan Folkman determined that there are two ways in which us as
It is important that you make yourself aware of class descriptions (as well as any prerequisites) in the college catalog, the layout of the college, the offices at the college and what type(s)
With all the heavy workload that students receive, it is often easy to stress out. When a
Keeping a constant healthy nutrition during college is hard because I do not have time to worry about my food. I try my best to choose wisely, what I consume daily. Eating breakfast is very important to me because without it I will not have that morning boost. Making sure I consume my daily dose of water, I carry a bottle of water with me every day. Going to the gym and exercising is a habit that kept me stress less. Making sure that I play my favorite sport during the weekend, I keep my daily nutrition healthy. Because of the schedule between my school and work, I keep my nutrition fast and convenient.
Stress is unavoidable, no matter the situation, location, or time; stress is always present. Stress is found in higher levels during the duration in which students attend college. It is predictably higher among college students, freshmans in particular, because of the extreme expectations set upon them by their parents and, of course, society. The need to please their parents, longing for success in life, and being able to sustain a reasonable income in the future, all of which falls into the hands of college students who are making critical decisions which may decide the outcome for a large portion of their lives. If these students end up hating their future jobs, the stress of having to go back into college to study for a new career
During the university/college years, students are faced with stress in many aspects of their life. The stress is immense in first year where the
Generalized anxiety is a problem that the United States faces nationwide. As we grow older and move into educational settings that are more taxing, anxiety becomes more prevalent. Today, college students are facing more stress than ever before. They are constantly pushed to be the best they can be, to be in the most extracurricular activities they can be in, and to attend the best schools possible. All of these goals and high expectations lead students to be harder on themselves, which makes other aspects of their life fall by the wayside, leading to high levels of stress and pressure.
Thesis: Today I will discuss about sources and effects of student stress and efficient ways to manage this emotional and physical strain.
Modern life is full of demands, frustrations, hassles, and deadlines. Everyone experiences stress as it is a natural part of human life. Our bodies have a built mechanism for responding to stress. However, during a certain period of time, people tend to face more stress than usual. One of such periods is college life. It can be very stressful for some people, especially for those who are not used to carrying out with so many responsibilities. Students spend most of their time balancing classes, projects, tests, final exams, personal life, and work; that is enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed. This stress can cause multiples problems, not just emotional, but physicals as well.
stress and puts students at a greater risk for health problems, including lack of balance in their
A very important factor of stress is school. School can cause a lot of stress. "One of the greatest sources of pressure is school. Where we are herded like cattle from room to room, chewing on our cud, while the hay of knowledge is force fed to us as we are trying our hardest to gulp it down as more and more is shovelled in"( ).Grades can act upon stress. Students may think that you always need good grades, parents can cause this or even just their own minds. Teens want to get into a good college so they stress. "Stress is created by parental pressure to perform and to stand out among other children. When they can't rise up to that expectation, or during the process of meeting it, children may suffer from frustration, physical stress, aggression, undesirable complexes, and depression"( ). Students who are involved in extra activities, usually develope unfriendliness, jealousy, shyness, and may become loners ( ). "Over scheduling a student's life can put them under stress. A child's in school and after school activities should be carefully arranged to give them some breathing space. Parents may want him to learn music, painting, or be outstanding in a
Unfortunately, college students experience a vast amount of stress during their semesters. According to New York University, stress takes a toll on a student’s physical health, emotional well-being, and academic success. In addition, “College Students experience stress, related to changes in lifestyle, increased workloads, new responsibilities, and interpersonal relationships.”A student stress survey was conducted by Ross (1999) to further support the claim of stress being a catalyst to the incompetency of a student’s mental and physical health. The results of the survey were astonishing because the top five sources of stress are changes in sleeping habits, vacations/breaks, increased workload, change in eating habits, and new responsibilities. Therefore, stressors that students face throughout college is a new environment, different responsibilities, deadlines, well written work, exams, and time management. Time management can be a crucial stressor in college. For instance, if a student doesn’t manage their time efficiently and effectively then that will lead to low grades or academic failure. Poor grades is a factor that ties with terrible sleeping habits and disorganized time management. Stress can be critical to a student's academic success, according to New York University, “Six in ten college students report feeling very stressed that they couldn't get their work done on one or more occasions.” The outcome is that stress leads to an
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic
