CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH DESIGN
3.0 Introduction
Chapter three deals with the method and procedure that will be adopted for collecting data and choice of analyzing the data.
The chapter will be discussed as follows:
1. Research method and Design
2. Population of Study
3. Sample and sampling technique
4. Data collection method
5. Research Instrument
6. Restatement of Research Question
7. Choice of statistical test
8. Validity and reliability of Instrument
3.1 Research method
The study will adopt a mixed approach. This involves the use of both qualitative (interview) and quantitative (questionnaire) methods. Quantitative method also known as descriptive survey was adopted as one of the research method to describe the respondent

3.4 Data collection Method
The major instrument for data gathering will be a self-constructed questionnaire with a semi structured interview. The researcher will approach the sample of study and administer the questionnaire after explaining the importance of the research and the need for them to respond truthfully. This will greatly help to reduce the error that may arise therefrom. The administered questionnaire will be retrieved immediately to prevent loss. The respondents would be given proper direction on how to fill the questionnaire to minimize the loss and error that may likely arise from poor administration of questionnaire.
3.5 Research Instrument
The research instrument will be a self-constructed questionnaire with a semi structured interview (open ended question). The questionnaire will have five sections: Section A contains demographic factors. Section B contains questions on communication as a variable of relationship marketing. Section C contains questions on commitment as a variable of relationship marketing. Section D contains questions on trust and Section E contains questions on customer satisfaction. Questions in the questionnaire will involve both closed and open ended questions. Closed ended questions will be asked in a Likert scale method. Open ended questions will be
This chapter outlines in detail how the research will be conducted, starting from the research philosophy, research design, data collection and analysis methods.
This study will implement a mixed methods design to include both quantitative and qualitative methods.
The procedure used to collect information for the research study is a survey and the techniques used were interview and questionnaire. An interview is when questions are posed to an individual to obtain information (What Is Survey Research? - Definition, Methods & Types, n.d.). A questionnaire is a series of written questions a participant answers (What Is Survey Research? - Definition, Methods & Types, n.d.). Follow- up questionnaires were administered to participant face- to- face and participants who were living long distance were interviewed by telephone.
This research will be adopting the mixed method approach, as it will assist in gathering both qualitative and quantitative methods to ascertain the authenticity of information used. Any weaknesses in either of the research methods will be complemented and compensated by the other’s strength.
The questionnaires will be correctly labelled to ensure survey data will be correctly linked. Verify that all surveys collected have signed consent forms. Track and analyze data as it comes in. All data will be stored on computer files for easy access and to comply with privacy laws. In conducting of the pilot testing, efforts were made by the researcher to ensure the setting, choice of participants and interview methods were as close as those intended in the main study as possible. Interview the participants on any difficulty they encountered while responding to the questionnaires. Record and analyze their responses for drafting the final questionnaires. This form of data collection and management aims ensure the collection of accurate and reliable
This section focuses on the technics adopted and used for this study with the aim of achieving the research objectives. Descriptive research design adopted in this study. Cooper (2003) observed that descriptive studies are structured with clearly stated questions to be investigated. The descriptive design was selected in this study because it would allow the research to gather numerical and descriptive data to assess the relationship between the variables.
This research project will focus on a mixed method, using qualitative and quantitative methods to gather and compare data. This research will include data gathered from other research,
When selecting a research approach, Creswell (2014) outlines criteria that affect the choice of one approach over another. I have already discussed how my worldview, personal experiences, and identified problem of practice and the questions affect my research. The design, methods, and audience of my emerging research will also be considered in terms of choosing a research approach.
1) Is there is a relationship between childhood obesity levels in primary school children and whether the child participates in after school sports activities?
The methodology includes the questionnaire and the survey was conducted online and the offline and the data was recorded and analyzed. In the questionnaire the questions were presented to the participants a total number of 129 people participated and the data was recorded and analyzed. A total number of eight questions were presented to the
This study will use a 3 x 2 between subjects, qausi-experimental, factorial research design. The first independent variable, affect will be manipulated through one of three video clips. These videos induce either a positive affect, negative affect, or neutral (i.e. no affect). Videos were chosen because they have been shown to be a very effective method of inducing emotion under experimental conditions (Verleur, Verhagen, & Heuvelman, 2007). Whether or not the participants have completed a graduate level ethics course will serve as a subject independent variable. The dependent variable will be the number of correctly identified ethical issues on the Ethical Discrimination Inventory. The participant 's views on how strictly they should adhere to ethical guideline when confronted with an ethical dilemma will serve as a covariate in this study.
‘Experiments are quite unusual, but are employed in related areas of analysis and is used as a yardstick against which non-experimental research is assessed. Experimental research is frequently held up as standard because it prompts considerable confidence in the strength and trustworthiness of causal findings. True experiments tend to be very strong in terms of internal authority’ (Bryman, 2012, p.50).
This chapter will start by reviewing various approaches to data collection and justify the difference between quantitative and qualitative research, then finally this chapter will explain about the selected method for this research and reasons why.
Survey questionnaire was used as an instrument to gather data. The research procedures were divided into three stages.
This chapter explains the methodology that was employed to answer research questions discussed in Chapter 2. It includes a description of research design, how the instrument was developed, how the subjects were selected, and how the data were collect analyzed.
