AT&T is already doing well, in the way of sustainable business practices. In the 2014 annual report, various sustainable community, technology, and environmental advances were mentioned. It appears that AT&T is on its way to sustainable reporting already. There are multiple functional changes that can occur in order for AT&T to improve their sustainability. I took notice of the cups that were thrown out. They were made of paper, much more disposable than the styrofoam previously used. In 2011, a non-profit foundation named As You Sow approached Mcdonald’s looking to help them reduce waste(“As You Sow”). McDonald’s began to work with them and by 2013, they had replaced the styrofoam cups with paper cups in all 14,000 U.S. restaurants. This was a change made after the large corporation received a simple request made by a small non-profit foundation. This shows that these big corporations are willing to work with small non-profit organizations in order to improve the overall environmental friendly aesthetic of their companies. Another example of a sizable company changing their ways due to a suggestion from a relatively small group of individuals can be seen in the changes Walmart made regarding their laundry detergent.. Walmart, in order to enhance their shipping and handling, approached a group of engineers to see what they would propose. This group suggested cutting down container size and filling it with a concentrated detergent (Nicholson). With this elementary, yet useful tip, Walmart began to ship more detergent, and less air and water. Furthermore, they reduced the amount plastic used for detergent containers. This demonstrates how eco-friendly changes can be beneficial to both the planet and businesses.
A lot of businesses find that a very efficient way to keep their customers is by acting in a socially responsible way.. A company can be socially responsible in a variety of ways such as using resources that won’t hurt the environment or the consumers, and giving a portion of their proceeds to a foundation. An example of a socially responsible company is Burt’s Bees. Burt’s Bees has gone above and beyond to promote socially responsibility not only by providing natural products and assuring customers that no harm was done to the animals involved but by sponsoring and donating to foundations that have the same want for world-wide well being.
Suncor Energy’s strategic involvement in corporate social responsibility is a very important factor for me as a possible future employee. I believe a company who gives back to the community where it operates will treat its employees with respect. Their involvement in corporate social responsibility will create a community that will be fertile with employable talents in the future. This participation in corporate social responsibility is seen as an advantage for the company as it will develop the community in which it draws its resources, both human and material. It will also boost the company’s reputation and corporate image and subsequently attract quality applicants.

PepsiCo began in 1965 when Pepsi-Cola merged with Frito-Lay and now distributes twenty-two brands of products that include Pepsi, Lays, Tropicana and Quaker. This paper will provide information about PepsiCo’s dedication to environmental, human and talent sustainability while increasing revenue by reducing essential production costs such as water use and packaging materials.
Sunchips provides not only a “healthier” chip but also uses renewable energy and a biodegradable bag and encourages consumers to join their eco movement. Other companies, such as Pepsi and Volkswagen, are joining in too. The “Refresh Everything” project launched by the major soda chain is attempting to make its product more environmentally friendly, and Volkswagen is taking even bigger strides with its movement, “The Fun Theory,” which encourages customers to be green while making the process fun (Park 1). Other major corporations jumping on the green bandwagon include Hewlett Packard, which boasts its recycling efforts and energy efficiency, and Ben and Jerry’s with its effort to “Lick Global Warming” and employ other eco-conscious practices (Rottkamp 1). While these strategies have shed light on being friendly to our planet, the fact remains that the large portion of our population simply is not embracing it.
