Dear BB & T’s Leadership Development Program selection committee,
I am interested in the Leadership Development Program (LDP) that BB & T offers. In my undergraduate career I got a degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. I am currently a Masters of Business Administration student, with a concentration in Human Resources, at Appalachian State University. I have already done research on the corporation, on its mission, values, diversity, and its leadership development programs. I have also written a company analysis in my MBA program on BB & T. I really want an opportunity to work for this company. I will complete my MBA course load in August 2016 and will be applying for the January session for 2017. Based on my background, I believe the corporate route would be the best fit for me.
I have experience in Human Resources. During my senior year of undergrad, I got into the accelerated program to take MBA graduate courses. I took performance management and completely fell in love with Human Resources. That year I decided to volunteer at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC, at its Human Resource Department. I volunteered for six months doing whatever tasks were required of me. Most tasks consisted of filing, coding, and updating employee’s files. I was also asked to brainstorm ideas on how to meet the HR department’s goal of maintaining 80% retention of employees at the hospital. I even tailored my sociology senior capstone project, so it would overlap with Human Resource
In analyzing the concepts discussed in Human Resource Management, I have found an interesting mix of education and forethought into the role of a human resource manager. Many of the aspect of human resource management such as HR planning, recruitment and selection, as well as, human resources development and labor relations all play a significant role in the success of any organization. There are many benefits to the learning that has taken place in this course that has helped me better understand HRM and its roll that will shape not only my position in business now but for future
I am very interested in a career field in Human Resources. For this paper, I interviewed Lillian Mannino who is a Human Resource and Personnel Manager at the UC San Diego Graduate School of Global Policy and Strategy. As a manager, Lillian serves as the link between the graduate school’s management and its employees. She is in charge of overseeing recruitment, employee relations, policy development, payroll, and benefits. Personnel management is a special branch of management that is focus on the concerns of employees at work and their relationship with the organization. Her educational experiences consist of a bachelor degree at UC San Diego in Management Science and a professional Human Resources certificate from UCSD Extension. She has been working in the academic administration for almost ten years and earned her current position as manager through climbing up the ladder. She started off working in this field as a student affairs officer then was promoted to an administrative specialist. Her prior work experience paved a path for her to build up professional experience as well as a solid network within the UCSD administrative system.
Before taking this assessment I was a little apprehensive because the introduction of PHR/SPHR Study Guide mentioned that the study guide was “designed to serve as a refresher for experienced professionals who have practiced HR for a minimum of two years” (Reed & Bogardus, 2013, p. xxi). My background has always been in the administration portion of business; however, with each employment opportunity gained it seemed as if my duties would also involve some degree of Human Resources. For example, I worked for a company called JobStarts a non profit organization who provided employment services, training, and entrepreneur programs. I was hired on as an Administrative Assistant but was involved in the creation of a Bank Teller Program for the youth. On another job I was responsible for payroll although I was the administrator. These were some of the reasons why I wanted to learn more about Human Resources because I needed to
At the beginning of the year looking for classes to take Human Services stood out to me. Although not really knowing the meaning of human services, I believed it was about helping people and that’s something I have always been very passionate about. I am always the friend who is giving advice and hearing out my friends’ dilemmas and situations. The definition of Human services in our book is: a phrase that is often used to group activities that focus on helping people live better lives. In a vague way, the human services include formal systems such as government welfare programs, education, mental retardation services, mental health organizations, child care programs, physical health care establishments, and the correctional services of the legal justice system. The definition of a human service worker is: Anyone who is trained or educated in helping activities. A person who does not have traditional professional academic credentials but who, through experience, training, or education, provides helping services. When this project of interviewing a human service worker and learning in depth how they do their job, and how they help others it was something that I was pretty excited about. The process on how I found the human service corporation I would interview was pretty difficult since all of the ones I was interested at first were taken. Going through the process to schedule my first interview was not as hard as I sought it to be.
Secondly, human resource is an important aspect of business; most of organizations nowadays view people as their most valuable resources. In fact, the part that intrigued me was the challenges derived from the changes in function and structure of HR department. HR is becoming a need for every aspects of day-to-day management, and job-seekers would find their jobs require more of generalists with more skills and competencies to perform multi-tasking (Larsen & Brewster 2003). Those are challenges as well as potential, on which you could learn and develop yourself.
During this internship experience, I have learned many useful skills that have lead me to be the person I wan to be today. From college classes to work experience, I now have the ability to transcend upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective of life. For my last internship, I chose to intern at The Wyomissing Home Depot Human Resources Department. The human resources associates are responsible to maintain a positive work environment among employees. For the most part, human resources associates are focused on career development, execution of learning, employment practice, staffing, recognition and reward. At my internship site, I have established a few goals for myself that will help me keep my focus on the potential career and work setting I will have in the future. The main purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect on my different learning goals that I established at the beginning of my internship experience at Wyomissing Home Depot human resources department.
Title of report: Developing Yourself as an Effective Human Resources or Learning and Development Practitioner
Upon completion of my bachelor’s degree program, I will try to seek employment with my hospital human resources department as a generalist. I currently work with staffing and with a bachelor’s degree in management; I believe I would be ready to move up to a higher level. The transition from staffing to human resources I believe would be smooth, because I am familiar with the hiring process and I am also knowledgeable with dealing with outside staffing agencies.
This study shows the career paths within human resources. It gives an overview of each human resource specialty by explaining in detail of possible duties conducted. It also discusses the strategic human resource planning conducted by a recruiting and selection specialist, training and development specialist, and compensation and benefit manager. Each specialist may conduct his or her duties separately or may cover all areas depending on the size of the organization.
During my career as a human resources professional I have had the opportunity to be exposed to the diversity of several industries like Health Care, Manufacturing and Digital Content. These interactions allowed me to understand the role played by human resources, regardless of industry or line of business, is vital for any organizational success. Without people organizations would not function. My work experience has also provided me
For this assessment, the industry is defined as the handful of top business schools within the world that provide elite MBA degrees to Executives.
The HR professionals have a hard time getting qualified applicants to apply for certain positions. So the first challenge is getting enough people to apply to a particular job. In doing so they are able to prepare not to consider those who they deem unfit for the position. It takes a lot of effort to select the applicants that truly qualify for the job. All organizations have to begin with advertising for the position. Other resources used for employment are employee referral, employment agencies, school recruiters, walk-ins, and the internet. To work in human resources, a person must go through an industrial/psychology analysis. WellPoint human
The Human Resource Development courses are structured to equip me with the knowledge of what happens in the HR department as well as the specific departments and positions within the HR field. Often, the only time employees interact with the Human Resources representatives are when such employee is going through the process of application screenings, orientation/onboarding, and training and development programs. Though these programs and processes are essential to the company, as a whole, there is more that goes into the HR department than what the employee might

I have a good understanding about Human Resource Management. Going through human resource management has taught me so much more than stuff about how the working companies deal with their success in employing the right person for the right job. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly I have learned how important wider world and the people
