Delta Sigma Theta Integrity Organizational Development

As I started Bloomfield College I have always been interest in joining a sorority. I went to many different interested meeting and none of them caught my attention like Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did. When I sat down and listen to their history and their goals it really made me change my mind and realize that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was the one. I am a proud Latina and to know that they were the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation made me more excited and enthusiastic on being part of the interested ladies. The main thing that captured my interest was to know that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. is a scholarly excellence sorority. As any person would think a sorority is about partying and having fun I believe this one focus more on their educational future and to achieve their goals.

Appreciative inquiry embraces the personal in problem solving by including them in planning, constructing and visualizing the forthcoming changes. Advantages to OD are improvement to the effectiveness of the organization and the staff. That will lead to being better functioning, more successful and creating competitiveness within the organizations workforce.

My freshman year of college I joined Sigma Sigma Sigma, one of the largest national sororities on campus. Sigma Sigma Sigma was founded in 1898 in Farmville, Virginia and its Nationals Headquarters is currently located in Woodstock, Virginia. Sigma Sigma Sigma’s mission is to ensure a perpetual bond of friendship, develop strong womanly character and promote high standards of ethical conduct. While working together to enforce this mission for all of its members, each chapter must uphold and follow the rules and regulations provided yearly by National Headquarters. This organization also holds a great value for their foundation that was formed in 1992. This foundation, which was soon named, Robbie Page Memorial (RPM), focuses specifically on supporting child play therapy programs for hospitalized children.

As an entrepreneur and performance management graduate, I always dream of building a strong organization, which can perform effectively and efficiently in such dynamic environment and enable to achieve its strategic goals. To strengthen an organization, it must begin with individual capabilities that help to develop organizational excellent performance. Also, to achieve better performance, an organization must be able to adopt changes in creativity in technology and human resource knowledge. Therefore, studying organization development will enhance my knowledge in improving my organizational performance. It will benefit my organization in term of continuous improvement, increased communication, employee development and increased profits.

The title of the article gives a slight insinuation that organization development is not appreciated as much as it should be embraced by those who could benefit from its services. According to the authors, there are four areas that seem to be viewed as divergent. Oxford Dictionaries, defines divergent as “Tending to be different or develop in different directions” (divergent: definition of divergent in Oxford dictionary (American English) (US), n.d.). Therefore, instead of viewing these OD processes as divisive or multidirectional, it is also possible to view them as complimentary. These four areas are: “development versus change, episodic versus continuous change, planned versus emergent change, and diagnostic versus dialogic OD” (Cummings, T. & Cummings, C., 2014, p. 141). Viewing OD techniques in new or more correct ways that would enhance its processes and perception is of benefit to not only the practitioner, but also its clients. OD’s desire is to make clear its intentions to be socially, economically, and humanistically sound as a discipline.

Organizational Development is a system that is developed from wide range of scientific actions that is used by organizations to solve any issues in order to become successful. Additionally, Organizational Development is used as a to address and analyze the organizations strength, weaknesses, opportunities or threats. Once the company has identified its issues, Organizational Development is used as a business strategy to achieve such goals, which includes product quality, sales growth and customer relations. According to the textbook, “Organizational Development is a system-wide application… behavioral science knowledge to the planned development, improvement and reinforcement, strategies…that leads to organization effectiveness.” (Cummings, Worley, 2015)

First, organizational development is the study of organizational change dedicated to increasing knowledge and effectiveness of employees to achieve desired goals and performances in an organization.  Since an organization is “people who work together to accomplish things” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2015. p. 6), then it is valuable to understand people’s and team’s behavior.  For an organization to be effective, it needs to have “open systems, organizational learning, high-performance work practices and stakeholders” (McShane, S.
