For the past two years, I have been studying anthropology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Although I had pursued anthropology, as I started taking courses and meeting people in this field of study, I felt I had made a wrong choice in major but tried to continue my studies anyway. I was not only depressed but also frightened by the fact that if I quit now, I would be behind everyone else in any field of study. However at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, I have found the perfect major for me and I am confident that FIDM will prepare me for not only a job, but a career.
For years, my activities, personal hobbies, and leisurely readings have led me to have a deep and passionate interest in all things design. From watching

The internships offered through FIDM will allow me to use the skills I learn in class and apply it to real life projects, giving me not only experience but also networking opportunities with future employers. The idea of designing, building and making a project with my very own hands excite me, and to become a visual design director, set decorator, or exhibit designer which seemed like a dream can now become a reality.
FIDM has a myriad opportunities for me to indulge in that interest, building a solid foundation from which to work and bolstering it with programs like an A.A. in Visual Communications, which combines creativity and planning with real life projects. With my creativity and competitive spirit and using the analytic skills provided by my FIDM courses, I will be better prepared to embark on this journey. Attending FIDM for Visual Communications will allow me to have not only public accountability in the industry, but also exclusive access to some of the world’s most prominent companies where I could put my knowledge and passion to good use.
With its professional excellence in a busy, urban setting, FIDM is the perfect school, bringing hands-on experiences and professional opportunities to me. Using the resources and opportunities available, I will have a chance to become an active participant in the fashion or entertainment
I am interested in becoming a member of FLOC because I know I have the potential to succeed as a leader at University of Texas at Arlington. My skills as a speaker and a guide make leadership something I can utilize to inspire those who follow me.
I have grown up on my family farm outside of Albert Lea MN for my whole life. I have always taken a special interest in the beef cattle on our farm. I currently manage all of the herd records, and own part of the business. Throughout my SAE project through FFA, I started my own herd as well. I work extremely hard on our farm with the beef chores. I also help out with the crop farming on my farm by running tractors and watching bins. Because I have such an interest in cattle, I started working on a dairy farm two years ago. I currently milk 150 cows before, and after school everyday. I take a lot of time with my school studies as well. I maintain a 4.0 even while taking numerous college classes, and working. One of my greatest passions while in school has been FFA. I have served as the historian and the President of our
My involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me grow as a person over the past four years of high school. I have learned how to be more responsible, reliable, as well as how to be a team player and work well with others. I enjoyed playing softball and CYO volleyball and basketball. I knew it was not just about the game I was also about the people. I did my best to help my teammates.
As a developing and growing student, I realize that I need a plan for success, even though that plan may change. At Indiana University Bloomington, I plan to study in the School of Art and Design in order to eventually become an interior designer. While I may change my career choice and area of study, my drive and dedication to achieve excellence will never waver. However, that does not mean that I will not face challenges along the way.
As a senior in high school, I have been questioned about where I am going to school and what degree I plan on getting. Up until about November of 2015, I was very indecisive. I was torn between a career in healthcare and what I knew I was passionate about. I wanted to be a teacher. I have taken health care classes since my freshman year of high school.
In this day and age, less than 2% of people in the United States is involved in the production of food for the remaining 98% of citizens in the country. Among discussions occurring in the 2%, one common topic is a lack of education about agriculture in the general public. Prior to high school, I am ashamed to admit, but I was one of the people who would have answered that my milk came from a grocery store. As a project one year, I went to the grocery store and interviewed shoppers as to their knowledge about agriculture. Many of them had a similar belief as I once had, food starts at the grocery store. Upon my entrance into high school, I quickly became involved in the National FFA Organization. Many of my family members gave me crazy looks
This paper also supports the self-fashioning article by Keohane. Self-fashioning builds the character, personality, and focus on the student. A self-fashioned student is more likely to succeed in life in whichever line of specialization he chooses. Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point that innovation and technology are more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people who know their personality and character are able to use in their skills, time and education to be the best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my view, success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and determination to create a change. Self-fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic things in life. Things like cleaning, washing, and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it comes to self-fashioning.
Wayne Dyer once said “doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life”. Ever since I was a little girl, fashion has always been a very important part of my life. However, while most young girls were busy designing Barbie’s next outfit, I was enthusiastically trying to figure out the best way to market and sell Barbie to my friends. This habit did not end during my childhood years; rather it followed me through high school. I firmly believe that being passionate about your career can add much happiness and depth to your life. By attending FIT I can bring and take away positive ideas and qualities.
My choice to attend FIU was one of the easier ones I’ve made so far in my academic career. I was drawn to the university as I felt a sense of community here that has only been further enhanced as a legacy, with both my mother and stepfather having completed their Bachelor degrees at this institution. The relationships and connections my parents were able to build here were a testament to FIU’s ability to bring together people from so many different backgrounds and create a family. I experienced an even greater connection as my stepfather found a lifelong friendship and mentor in an FIU staff member and honored him by making him the godfather of one of my younger brothers. Thus, FIU has been a special part of my life even before college was
The last time I was in Italy, studying at LdM, I was introduced to the concept of la bella figura. I was told that it is a concept not about the whims of fashion but about confidence, style and demeanor. It is about being an authentic person and presenting yourself to the world without artifice. I am excited to be studying in Florence, the world capitol of art and art restoration. The prestige of earning a certificate from an Italian institution will certainly give me an advantage as a prospective graduate student or as specialist in the field. In order to be effective in the world of art restoration I need to be fluent in Italian. Immersion is the only way to truly become a fluent speaker, listener and writer. My academic and professional goals are very important to me, but la bella figura, the authentic representation of one’s self is what I
Learning the fundamentals of Digital Media is essential to laying a solid foundation to allow for a sturdy backing in digital design. My interest in interior design commenced in middle school during a project on various careers. Since then, it has become an ever-developing passion. Interior design has manifested itself into my daily thoughts. I constantly look at my surroundings, wondering what I could do to change the room into a more practical space. This fuels my thirst for further knowledge. The only way to gain this knowledge is to get a degree and learn through practical application. My educational and professional career objectives are to obtain a bachelor of fine arts in interior design and to succeed as a commercial interior designer.
At the table there was a student in the Anthropology program and on her table she had things that related to anthropology. For example, she had skulls and stuff animals such as lemur because Anthropology looks at the study of human and animal development. I also learned that anthropology has seveal subfields with in the major. For instance, you can go study sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology and much more. Furthermore, occupations in Anthropology are growing fast. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Employment of anthropologists and archaeologists is expected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations.” Those with anthropology majors can work in a variety places. They can work for universities, museums, private companies and even with the government. Anthropology is offered as a minor or a concentration here at William Peace and those are interested in the major are required to take Cultural Anthropology, Biological Anthropology and an additional 12 elective course hours with courses focused on the major. If you’re interested in learning how humans and animals act, why they act, and how they will continue to evolve then anthropology is the major for
From my early experiences with fashion, these lead me to continue to follow all through my academic process, my favorite classes all through elementary school were Art, this continued until high school. In high school, I explored more into the world of fashion and more behind the scenes of the fashion industry. During my junior year of high school, I took a job a K-mart I learned about not only fashion but retail. I learned a great deal in the job about visual merchandising, during this time through a class in high school we were given the opportunity to spend the day with the Austin American statesman, I was chosen to spend the day with marketing department, I learned a great deal and this really changed my outlook for my career path at the
