Functions of Management Paper
I work for Dell computer company and planning is extremely important. Since computer industry is changing so much and we are a global company it is very important to do the research and have a plan set in place to insure the profitability ad demand for our products. We do have many partnerships with other companies so it is imperative that have contracts in place in order to deliver best and newest technology as it is approved by FCC and released to the market.
Organizing is another very important part of our company’s successful operation. On average Dell sells 250,000 a day so precise organizing is what makes it possible for all operation to be smooth and customers to be happy. We do have a great

My supervisor spends a lot of time planning the promotions for Dell Direct Stores. He is responsible for the territory of USA. It is up to him to make sure that marketing team gets the feedback on advertising. He has to plan what kind of strategies we will us to increase the margin and revenue. My boss also plans rollouts of new products and has to make sure that it will be successful.
My supervisor is also a great organizer, because he has give feedback to executive team, so he has to make sure that he has everything in order and knows what is going on with his segment at all times. He is in charge of segment at Dell that generates 5 billion dollars a year in revenue and a billion dollars in margin. If he fails to make sure that everything goes as planed he can hurt the company’s bottom line by a lot.
He is also a great leader, instead of telling me and other territory leads what he expects from us, he actually talks to us about what should we do or what ideas we have about how to achieve his set goals. I look at him more like at the leader and not like at the manager. I really enjoy working with him because he is always there for us if we have any problems or questions, and he welcomes suggestions and ideas. And the fact that he moved up from territory leads position into his current position because of his outstanding performance makes him a great leader.

There has been a lot of ups and some downs that you have to deal with, with being a supervisor. Somethings that we learned throughout this course that really are effective about being a good supervisor, is that you make more money, you have more responsibility, you get to have more experience, teach people new things, have an open environment, build trust with people, encourage others to grow and also grow the business. It is great to have all these amazing opportunities because you get to lead your people in a positive direction. You want to have a following of people that are able to look up to you and come to you if they need anything. As a Naval Officer I had the opportunity to experience both leadership and management. Today's Navy operates with fewer people and resources than before. Therefore, leadership and management are more important than ever. Very early in my career I was taught leadership and as I advanced through the ranks I experienced management.
Kadushin describes a supervisor as someone "to whom authority is delegated to direct, coordinate, enhance, and evaluate on-the-job performance of the supervisees for whose work he/she is held accountable. In implementing this responsibility, the supervisor performs administrative, educational, and supportive functions in interaction with the supervisee in the context of a positive relationship" (Powell, 1993).
He is very good at getting an answer for questions or making a choice if a problem arises.

Organizing the organization works within and outside of management. It helps attract customers. Organizing involves grouping work units. This process helps to run the organization smoothly. Each unit is responsible for specific tasks, and the units come together to discuss the overall plan for the entire organization. It is easy for workers to see management as unprepared and lose their respect for management with proper organization. He adds, “Have a nice day!”, on top of it! He leaves people with a better feeling than before they called him. Communication is crucial in any relationship rather it is work, family or other random individuals walking along in the street. Supervisors must be able to communicate to their employees and coworkers information that can benefit the business and relationship of the individuals involved. An important function the supervisor must have is the skill to rely messages and information to the subordinate and managers. Without communication between coworkers and business members the business will not successes, the employees must rely messages to the workers the customers and so forth. Supervisors should build a reliable and trustworthy relationship with the employees and manager of the business. If the coworkers and supervisor and the business managers work long and hard at the relationship then the business will strive with the success.
Research found that the ultimate boss separates him/herself from the supervisor herd by focusing on employee skills and talents. Successful supervisors have an uncanny ability to discover what is uniquely awesome about each person, capitalize on that individual’s talent, and then build teams and systems around it.
