Visual art has been highly appreciated and has become popular since the second half of the nineteenth century, during which the public gradually get familiar with the visual art and its applications. In the late nineteenth century, when artists began to utilize distinctive materials and various techniques on their work, there are a lot of innovative works done by masters whose names have been marked ever since. He had a great influence by spreading eastern ideas and painting techniques to the contemporary western world. "In his poetry and his painting, Michaux explores the movements of the world within seeking a heightened awareness of the continually evolving self while experimenting with the possibilities of artistic expression. Having developed an ideology of perpetual movement as the basis of human existence, and having defined 'self' as a momentary position of equilibrium in an ever-changing reality,1 Michaux considers writing and painting to be the signs of that movement as well as the tools which aid him in self-exploration."(Edson) Michaux is an artist who wants the world to understand him and his ideas, it is clearly showing in the Price of the Night. With a dark background, people always think about death, heavy or lifeless, but this is not the main ideas that Michaux wants the world to know. From his experiences of traveling and humanities, he believes that there could be more possibilities to the new visual art style and new human development. Michaux put stars in the sky, within the contraction of light and dark, and those colorful dots bring life to the plain black sky, and the price, which is in an orange mask. Orange is the color of the sun, usually uses as a symbol of the life and hope. Even he places himself under the gathering darkness, he is still gives people a feeling that he is full of passion. And this is what Michaux wanted to express to the world. Even though there are people still questioning and arguing about his personalities and his work, there is no doubt he was the pioneer in the visual art development. Michaux once said, "Western culture should cast off from accumulation, occupation and expansion."
