Diversity use to be defined based on gender, race, color, nationality origin and religion. That changed over the years, and the term diversity has expanded. The importance of respect in a diverse workplace became a concern. Diversity now includes of physical characteristics or attributes and generational differences. Differences on philosophy and values. Respect should be an important aspect in the workplace to achieve collaboration a positive environment. Mutual respect should be promoted regardless of physical characteristics. Especially in situations of conflict a lot of respect is not demonstrated and that shows lack of value. To promote and uphold the company, respect should be practiced among all staff employees. Respect is an important aspect of business in the workplace. Respect can be demonstrated in simple ways, such as treating others with courtesy, politeness, and respecting the culture of others. Taking the time to listen to what others have to say, and encouraging opinions and ideas. When you listen, you can also incorporate the ideas of others and use those ideas to improve your work or project. You help employees know that you understand them, and will implement that idea among other employees. This influences collaboration. Respect should be used among all individuals no matter the religion, gender, size, age or country of origin. With respect, the will be a harmonious relationship between co-workers and staff of other positions. Work Relationships also have a part such as poor relationships with the co-workers, staff and authority, competition, and no validation. In an organizational role, there can be conflicting job demands, being assigned a lot of responsibility, being over or under qualified based on your skill, and inadequate credit for accomplishments. Policies in the workplace, money problems, life satisfaction and health also have a major impact. Aretha Franklin sings “Everybody needs a little respect”. No matter our race, religion, gender, or origin, we need to treat everyone with respect and kindness. When we treat our coworkers and others respectfully, we need to listen to what others say before expressing your view, never insult, criticize, belittle, or judge; be aware of your body language and the tone of your voice, and lastly, be a role model for respect.
Respect is an important element in effective communication, and the development of a relationship. Actively listening to another person’s point of view or opinion, remembering personal details, showing an interest and responding in an appropriate manner, all show that you have listened and placed importance upon what has been said, which leads to positive relationships and respectful, effective communication.
2 Ans: We can respect diversity in all areas of work by recognising the positive value of a diverse community of staff, affiliates and students. The diverse workforce comprises of an individual belonging to different background , gender , lifestyles , sexuality, socio-economic status , family composition , personal beliefs and values. Therefore respecting diversity is about trust ,honesty , acknowledgement, and respect for one another personal beliefs and values.
Diversity has been one of the top issues in today’s organization or establishment. At the workplace diversity means creating an environment that all employees feel included. It doesn’t matter of their gender, age, race, work experience, or sexual orientation. The Workplace should acknowledge and recognize other races and other cultures and recognize the fact there are many ways of viewing the world. Workplace diversity is what others bring into the actual workplace if you notice it brings different opinions and interaction from different backgrounds into the workplace. It opens up others points of perceptions on how things are viewed.
Respect has been found to be the most valued attribute from the patient’s perspective. However it is a valued attribute among coworkers as well. For example if you have a boss that is approachable and receptive of concerns, questions, complaints, constructive criticism, new ideas, and much more, it makes the lower scaled employee feel good about being able to be able to talk with their boss opposed to someone unapproachable, who an employee may be scared to go to with any information. As for using respectfulness to lead, makes employees have a more positive attitude, which in turn will affect their work effort in a positive way. Having someone above the employee on the pyramid scale, that is respectful to them, in turn makes them a happier and stronger
A culture of respect is when all individuals within a group setting accept all the various traits and opinions of its members while focusing the group efforts on accomplishing the duties as one nucleus. To nurture, develop, and grow the culture, a foundation of general professional and personal etiquette must be established to place structural unbias behaviors and expectations amongst the diversity of the group. Every single human being has the need to feel respected, although the needs or forms of being respected may vary. We are internally seeking acceptance of ourselves within our cultural groups whether family, friends, coworkers, or community at large. We as individuals innately pursue to being appreciated for our unique character traits,
I want to explain why respect and communication are very imperative for me. First, everybody knows that communicate and respect is basically a matter of talking and listening. I do believe that communicate and respect is a crucial part of all organization. Without this skill, a leader is disadvantaged in a friendly relationship with staff. Without being able to express themselves and listen to others, they cannot a success and cannot build a collaborative work environment.
As companies become more diverse in the work field employees are getting harder to manage and understand. One issue in the global market today is workplace diversity. Workplace diversity is defined as all characteristics and experiences that defined each employee as individuals, but it can also be misunderstood as discrimination against employees. Diversity can include race, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability and sexual orientation discrimination. One reason why workplace diversity is important is because when you respect your employees productivity rate rises and many companies do not know that. A diverse workplace targets to create an inclusive culture that values and uses the talents of all employees.
Secondly, I would like to address how respect plays a significant role in maintaining professionalism in the work place. Respect can be broken down into two categories;

Respect is seen everyday from school to home, from our parents to our teachers, from our leaders to our peers. Respect is needed for a society to be prosperous; however, a society without of respect is on the brink of near anarchy. A society without respect will be a society that won’t exist. Respect is the building blocks of community in which respect structures the hierarchy of the community.
