Instructional Purpose - Discussion Web - Post Reading Strategy
Instructional Purpose:
a.) The goal of this activity/assignment is to have the students reflect on the material we have discussed and state reasons for and against an idea or question. The question I decided roots within the subject matter the class just finished reading the day before. The question is “Should nuclear chemistry be studied and practiced?” Students will analyze the text, observe and reflect on the positives and negatives of the study of chemistry, and come up with their answer to the question created. 2.) What content in the reading may be used to extend thinking?
a.) Nuclear chemistry is category of chemistry that has seen controversy throughout the years. Nuclear

Does anyone have a debating statement and/or question that they would like to share? *Allow students to respond* Thats a great question, so we are going to base our discussion web on this statement. “Should there be summer breaks?” I would like you all to partner up and write down some reasons for both sides of the question. This will test your ability to avoid biases when completing a discussion web. *Allow students to work on reasons* Alright I would like a group to come up and write some reasons for all year schooling. Then I would like another group to come up and provide reasons for keeping the summer break. *Allow students to write on the boards* Alrighty well it looks like we have two great reasons for each side of the question. For against all school year, we have 1.) summer breaks allows students to relax in between school years and 2.) provide students with motivation when the end gets near. For the all year reasons we have 1.) prevents students from losing knowledge during summer break and 2.) students tend to lose motivation at the end of the year. Interesting that you could have a discussion web based on student motivation at the end of the school year. Now meet with your partner again and create conclusions based on the reasons listed. *Allow students to work* Please share with me some of your conclusions. *Allow students to respond* So you are saying that school years should include the summer break because the summer break allows the students to take a couple months off to rest and come back feeling motivated to complete the next year. That is a nice conclusion, but you modified or added a reason so make sure you have that listed on your
The question that I have chosen for my inquiry project is: How can you improve performance in a first grade classroom with Guided Reading? I am interested in this since I teach first grade. As a first grade teacher I am always looking for ways to improve my class’s performance. Guided reading offers support to the students as they are learning. Rogoff suggested that “adults support children’s learning by structuring the task’s difficulty level, jointly participating in problem solving, focusing the learner’s attention to the task, and motivating the learner.” (Frey & Fisher, 2010, 84).
E. Although the Responsibilities of Students may seem like a feasible topic, it is actually quite poor since varieties of responsibilities exist and they can mostly be agreed on by everyone.
Thesis: The uses of nuclear energy range from being a clean, renewable energy source to cutting edge medical procedures.
Central Idea: I researched this topic extensively and discovered the benefits of year round school, developed a plan to implement it, as well as reasons why this plan is possible.
b. According to Dr. Brian Ray (2011). Students are engaged in social and educational activities.
Specific Purpose Statement: To encourage my audience to consider multiple perspectives by providing my audience with information on the arguments for and against raising the cost of college tuition.

[The essential literacy strategy that I am using in the learning segment is identifying problem(s) and solution(s) of a story. This is evident through the Common Core State Standard RL. 2.3, which states “Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.”This standard is evident in my lesson plans when learners are identifying problem(s) and solution(s) in leveled text and their own individual books. They will be filling in a graphic organizer or creating an anchor chart with their findings this literacy is provided in my learning objective, when it states, “Learners will be able to identify a problem or problems by doing a picture walk of their short stories and flagging them with sticky notes.” Another learning objective
2. What do you think that the purpose of college ought to be and how does your perspective relate to the author’s perspective?
Conduct research for, and write a research essay on a topic related to one of the three previous sections of Module 1:
have you ever been at recess and it's over in a blink of an eye? The subject I will be discussing is if we should get more time at recess. The issue I chose is relevant because kids doesn’t get enough time in recess. The purpose or reason why I chose to discuss this topic is, because we need more time to get to the places we need such as a class or office. I am a credible speaker because of how this issue affects me. this issue affects me because I am a kid who wants and needs more recess. I think we should have longer recess, because we need more time to go to the places we need to go. we can socialize more with friends. Then we can get ready for the next class.
b. I will primarily engage students in critical thinking by asking students higher level questions, whether that be in general discussion, in bellwork, or through document based questions.
b. It’s useful when students want to do a compare and contrast to the theory they are studying. It gives students various perspectives to view an issue.
1. Think of your past experience with reading and fictional analysis - what do you love about reading and debating a good story - what don 't you like - how do you think this class will hone your reading and thinking skills.
