Lockheed Martin Internship Essay

Through a partnership with Northrop Grumman, I develop my own projects with mentorship from a team of engineers. During my junior year, I utilized Java Eclipse and Android to develop and copyright a mobile application that digitized my high school’s school map, making navigation much easier for students. Due to my spectacular performance, Northrop Grumman offered me a paid summer internship. In collaboration with a team of my peers and the public works superintendent of the Fairfield Waterworks facility, I built a robot capable of diagnosing cracks and leaks in water main pipes. Over the summer, I also attended an eight-hour workshop about soldering electronics. This project garnered several awards at the Ohio State Technology and Engineering Showcase. Now, I am currently developing a low-cost Arduino-powered smartphone with WiFi capabilities.

Internship is a six to eight weeks working experience in any organization. The purpose behind doing an internship is to get familiar with a professional working environment. Often students do internships during there vacations so as to gain experience in their field of interest. Students studying engineering, computer science, textiles or business management; they are required to perform at least an internship so as to receive degree from their respective institutions. The purpose of writing this essay is to share my wonderful working experience as an internee at Spyglass Winery. I loved every minute of it as I discovered several new skills and came across with some interesting job opportunities. An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. In the field of Software Engineering, students have a plethora of internships available to them. Despite having so many choices available to them, students must narrow their options to internships that will benefit them the most. Two particular Software Engineering internships that stand out among the others are Animusoft’s Software Engineering internship and Microsoft’s Explorer program. Based out of Miami, Florida, Animusoft promises students the chance to work on exciting team projects while learning about software engineering in a professional setting (Animusoft LLC). I am ready to challenge myself to learn the dynamics of how a large company works and communicates along with exploring new fields in STEM. I am ready and willing to learn and accomplish whatever is required. I would enjoy learning how to code as this is a skill that I could use to improve my robotics team greatly. How does one establish correctly how long it will take to complete something that has never been done? When do you start working on part C of the project when you’re on part A. Upon completion of my mechanical engineering degree, I will commission into the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, and enter the “profession of arms” tasked with the defense of our country. As a mechanical engineering student, with the scientific and technological understanding similar to those mentioned above, I have thought about the engineering of weapons that make our military incredibly well equipped and advantaged in conflict. Learning in this course however, we have been taught about the expectation of an engineer to “promote the welfare of human beings”, which conflicts with intent and design of weaponry. This yields the moral issue that is the focus of this essay; how does an engineer morally justify the engineering or weapons systems developed to damage or kill human property, infrastructure, and people.

The Engineering Professional Internship takes place in summer 2017 at Lake Buena Vista, Florida, United States. This position is open to students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree at an accredited university majoring in an Engineering discipline. On the other hand, Netro requires a working knowledge of Wireframe Prototyping in the computing technologies. It is obvious that Netro is not as lenient as Animusoft when it comes to internship requirements. Animusoft states that students should have basic coding experience in C, C++, C#, Objective C, Java, Javascript, HTML, SQL, XML, and other various programming languages.

For this experience I obtained through my final year project, in which I need to design and manufacture a simple device. I may need to use some tools I had never use before such as the electric drill. That project is basically about wave energy converter. This experience broaden my knowledge about engineering as general and allows me to learn things that I cannot obtained in class such as real engineering design experience where I need to planed, drew and even manufactured my own design with the help of workshop during my final year project, while in this internship I experience firsthand how to manage and checking an ongoing project in such a huge scale and also how a team should work in big group compared to a small group of 4-5 people in class.

In this report, I will reflect upon the challenges and learning experiences I faced during my internship at BINUS Career in Jakarta, Indonesia. I spent three weeks working in the social media department, with the aim of improving their social media presence and advertising success. This project was a team based one and I worked closely with my partner on all stages of the project. As I did not have a background in human resources or marketing, the first challenge was applying my knowledge and research skills from my major in sociology to a new discipline. In this report, I will reflect upon my experiences in working on a team project, difficulties with cross-cultural communication and improving my problem-solving skills and initiative. Throughout the report, I will utilise the 5Rs of Reflection cited in Anon to analyse my experience (Anon, n.d.). This will consist of ‘reporting’ by describing my experience, ‘responding’, by describing my emotional response to the situation, ‘relating’ to the literature, ‘reasoning’ by explaining how the literature influences my thinking and ‘reconstructing’ by explaining what this learning experience means to me.
