Marketing is an intriguing career field that offers a variety of diverse jobs you can choose from. It is interesting to me because you can try to understand what people want and need, or why people will or won’t buy a product in the future. It is also interesting to observe how you can maximize your profit by selling at the right price aimed at a specific set of consumers. When working in marketing you are usually trying to promote, sell a product or spread the word about a product.

In marketing not only are you trying to sell the product but you are trying to get the word out there to your target audience. Through television, social media and print you are trying to let people know about your product and why it is the one for them. The social media aspect of marketing has gained importance in the last decade. Since so many people now use Social media it is an effective and inexpensive way to get the word out about a product or company. Another advantage to using social media is that all it takes to adjust your campaign is a few keystrokes. Really, any kind of digital marketing seems to be a leading way for those working in any marketing field to get the word out there. “71% of companies planned to increase their digital marketing budgets this year, by an average of 27%.” (www.Econsultancy.com). Another way that those in marketing choose to get the word out there is video testimonials. Studies have shown that people relate to personal stories, it helps build trust and does not seem like outright sales. Marketing is the function that connects businesses to their target audiences’ needs. It is how a business presents and distributes their product to their audience. For example, a business can market their product by advertising it to the public. This can be seen in many forms of media; such as: on television, via web, posters or on billboards.
As I reflect back over these last five weeks I now have a clearer view of marketing and how it affects not just the consumers of the world and the companies with their marketing managers, but how it affects me. Yes, I am a consumer who clips coupons, budgets my finances, and looks for sale items and this marketing class has taught me that marketing is more than selling or advertising. Marketing managers have a difficult job, as marketing involves identifying, meeting and satisfying the needs of customers or clients with goods and or services. Coming up with different strategies and marketing mixes is challenging because we live in a changing world with people who needs and financial situations are different. Yet still marketing engulfs every part of our daily lives. From what type of breakfast we eat, to where we shop, and even in our work environment. As I examine marketing, I will blend aspect to my career path as I make myself marketable for the future and aid my employer in the growth and survival in the economy.
Public relations is a very cost efficient way to display the product compared to my own advertising of the product and costing a fortune to pay for something when I might not even get my money back out of it. I am going to use company news, promotional events, and sponsorship programs this way I can reach a larger scale of an audience at relatively a fraction of the cost it would take me to pay for my own marketing.
Marketing is precisely about responding and reciprocating to customer needs. It's important that the business knows where there is demand in the market, in order for them to fill it before launching their new product. The business has to take into count that they have to set a reasonable price for the product, especially when they have competition in their location. This is when the four Ps of marketing are introduced; Product - the right product to fill in the market and a product that people are willing to buy to fulfil their customer needs, Price - an equitable selling price so that customers think that the product is a good value of money. Promotion - methods of advertisement such as: word of mouth, leaflets or on social media, by promoting your product you're letting customers know that your product exists. Place - the right location for your business where customers are likely to buy your products.

Marketing sector plays a vital role in a business or organisation. It is a sector that helps to inform and influence the society at large about the activities made by a business or organisation (Elliot, 2010). Working under the marketing sector would be challenging as it requires marketers to have competent attitudes and skilful (Elliot, 2010). Although there are several flaws can be identified to make marketing as a profession such as working long hours and working with an organisation that does not embrace the marketing concept (Klein, 2004), it is a profession that is meaningful to me.
