Throughout life, everyone has to deal with learning something whether it is their first baby steps, riding their bike, or calculating a math problem. What sets us apart is the way we learn because we are all different. We learn through many different learning styles such as verbal, kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. As I ventured into my own self I did not know what I was most comfortable with. Pinpointing between the four learning styles was very difficult and I needed guidance. From there on, I went to take the surveys posted on our class page to narrow down what I am really served for. After both surveys, it concluded that kinesthetic and visual learning were my strengths. I analyzed myself to see if it was true, after a while …show more content…
We were directed to read and write a response accordingly to our analyzation. I believe this assignment was a great representation of what my visual learning ability does. Within the article it contained many old pictures of advertisements, crime scenes, and photos. All the examples used in the article contained a message behind it, which was very clever. For example, Atwan shows a old United States propaganda advertisement of “Rosie the Riveter.” During the world war the men were fighting for our country leaving most of the women to work in a lot of male-dominant jobs. The advertisement “Rosie the Riveter” by J. Howard Miller shows a strong looking women flexing her muscles with a uniform on. Atwan then includes “During world war II some six million American women went to work in shipyards and in factories that produced munitions fitting the spots left open by men who were fighting in Europe or the pacific.” (2). Thus you can conclude from my background knowledge and simply visualizing the picture, it illustrated women being as strong as the men during the World War. I believe being a visual learner is a very intelligent way of learning because it is versatile. Pictures, diagrams, photos, maps, and graphics are part of our everyday lives, which makes it easier to observe and …show more content…
I strongly believe that once you realize what you are most comfortable with, it plays a big part in changing up certain lessons, lectures, and speeches into a perception you better understand. Kinesthetic and visual learning being my strengths translates to subjects such as science and math as my best subjects, because of many pictures and diagrams it contains. Learning styles are very interesting because it breaks down how people are perceived in other people's eyes. As I said before, everyone is different, so amongst time it is very easy to find out what you are most strong with to adapt to the
To begin with, description is utilized to show that pictures are worth more than words. In Lange’s image, the woman looks exhausted and the children seem saddened. Viewers of the image see this by their facial expressions. For instance, two of the children are looking away from the photographer and the woman has no smile on her face. Moreover, onlookers observe how people lived during the Great Depression in the west coast. Viewers of the image see this by their clothing. For example, the woman and children are wearing tattered, dirty clothing. The overall picture represents what people went through during the Great Depression without ever telling the audience it was taken during this
From the time of birth, individuals are constantly learning. Individual learning styles vary from person to person. It is essential to the education of the individual to learn the particular style of learning that best serves them. One particular analysis tool is the visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic or V.A.R.K. tool (VARK, 2011). This tool allows the individual to identify their particular learning style which will better prepare them throughout their education.
All learners have different learning styles. Using materials at the initial stage of the learning process can highlight preferred styles. Honey and Mumford show four learning styles – activists, theorists, reflectors and pragmatists, while VAK highlights visual, auditory and kinaesthetic preferences.
Fleming (2005) stated that people can be grouped into four styles of learning: (Gravells, 2012), Visual, Aural, Read / Write and Kinaesthetic (VARK), with Honey and Mumford (1992) suggesting that learners are a...
Our first step to identify the individual learning style of the learners’ (ergo to identify their needs), is performing ‘VAK’ (visual, aural, kinaesthetic) assessment. Francis and Gould (2013) describe it as a model of
i. Understanding the learners learning styles can make my course to be engaging. Flemming (1987) noted three different styles of learning; visual, kinaesthetic and aural. In order to know which method(s) to use to benefit my students the first lesson on my course will centre around discussions on what they already know, the resources they are familiar with, and a learning style questionnaire which will provide me with information on preferred learning styles. Effectiveness can also be enhanced if I adapt my teaching style to give maximum benefit to learners.
Results of the VARK self-assessment quiz indicated that I have a strong preference for kinesthetic and weak preference for Read-Write learning style. Second quiz for intelligence shows I have high percentage for Visual-Spatial and low for Rhythmic-Musical. Being a strong kinesthetic learner and with high Visual-Spatial intelligence, I will likely to teach by demonstration and less on reading and writing. Furthermore, I will have more hands-on and role-play and arts and crafts activities and less on reading and writing assignments. Create projects and activities in which all five senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing) will be used. This style of teaching will benefit the kinesthetic learners with Visual-Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic
The visual analysis I chose is of Rosie the Riveter, the “We Can Do It!” poster. This poster went around during the World War II to encourage all women to fill the jobs located in a factory named Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company. An artist by the name of J. Howard Miller first created this in 1942. His reason was to build confidence by others who misunderstood women’s rights. Representing women in early 1940’s wartime workforce produced Rosie’s character that served as a cultural icon during this time. Today it serves as a feminist icon by exalting women in various contexts in which experience inequality.
“Just as students have different personalities, they also have different ways of learing (Slavin, 107).” Learning styles are another important factor to incorporate when implementing the best learning environment. Learning styles are defined as an individual's mode of gaining knowledge. The most common learning styles addressed are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Auditory leaners understand information through hearing. Visual learners need more visual aids in the learning process, such as diagrams, webs, or pictures. Kinesthetic learners learn better by using manipulatives or by being physically involved in the learning process. Learning styles is a piece of the “backbone” of differentiated learning. Both are used to individualize instruction to help students achieve the most success.
After hard work I finally found out I am a kinesthetic, right brained learner. To begin, I used many tools to figure it out including a computer test and survey sheets. My favorite one was the computer test, it said i was a kinesthetic learner. On the characteristic worksheet it stated that I am mostly right brained. That made me confused because for left brain it said, “Good at math” and I’m very good at math. I am right brained because of the way I can be successful. I am better by having a partner to help me work. I always work better with a partner because I can talk through things. I love to learn when I can do it having fun. I can finish work quickly if I focus on the work. If I do my work around tons of noise I can’t do my work. I use
In September of 2012, I was sitting in a class listening to my professor going on and on about something in history. Since then I realize that I didn’t learn anything by just listening. I had to find out a better way to learn. I searched on the internet and took some quizzes and found out that I’m a kinesthetic learner.
Learning styles of individual students vary and as a consequence, learning needs also change from each student to the next (Liew, Sidhu, & Barua, 2015). The “styles” for learning that are widely adopted include the Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic (VARK) model, developed by Fleming and Mills (1992) include Visual (V), Auditory (A), Read/Write (R) and Kinaesthetic (K) types of learning approaches. The Visual (V) learner learns best by the use of information by visual means (using of charts, mindmaps, and other visual aids). The Auditory (A) learner understands best by
I have two learning styles that tied. It would be thinking and watching. I knew I was a visual learner but found more about myself that I have imagined. I learned that I like to think while learning and analyzing what is being taught. I am very much a visual learner, when I am in a classroom setting I need to see what we are doing not just a lecture. When its just a lecture my mind wanders and I do not get what was being taught. I only wished more instructors/teachers taught visually. I know this is a weakness of mine so I am going to work on this the best to my ability. This was a very awesome assignment to do I think it helps me understand myself better and I can also, understand others as well better.
A) I expected to get artistic, creative and investigative as my results on surveys that I took, because I already knew I had these traits as a part of my personality. However, the results from my learning styles survey were a little surprising to me. I got visual as my highest total score, while kinesthetic and auditory were almost balanced out scores. The reason why I was a little surprised was that last year, I took a survey to figure out my learning style, and I got both auditory and visual learner. The results have their little differences, but that shows people do change over time. Learning styles can be learned and strengthened.
Module 3 Assignment. PGCEi participant Just as there are multiple intelligences, there are several styles of learning. There are visual learners who prefer to learn by observation. Auditory learners who prefer to learn through listening and kinesthetic learners who prefer to learn through moving, doing and touching. A good teacher should try and incorporate all
