According to Swarbrick’s model of Wellness, it is an educational model, where spirituality is a strength, goals are personally set, drawing on one’s strength. It emphasises patience and persistence. The part that resonated with me the most is that one should accept the illness, crisis, or trauma. While subjective and psychological well being are not wellness I’ll discuss my process and results through well being lens.
I have been languishing especially in terms of work and health. I need to take better care of my physical health and psychological well being. This includes finding time for more creativity in my life, meditating more frequently, and finding new doctors. My overall goal is to feel less stressed and and manage the stress better. I think this can help me be healthier and less depressed. I’ve been struggling with my physical health, and although I’m much better than lots of others, I’m not where I’d like to be, there are both physical and psychological components to my illness, suspected to be Multiple Sclerosis, but some of the doctors I’ve been to said it behaves close to it, but may not be MS. Mainly because my illness is progressing faster than it should be from the MRI evidence, and my symptoms while sometimes occur with MS they are not common.

The objective was to see where I’m at,in terms of how I feel throughout the day and why I feel that way, and what I already do that helps me feel better, not change anything about it yet and not judge myself positively or negatively. I was able to keep better track of my symptoms, meditations and overall feelings more than my food intake and physical
Only two factors come to mind when I think wellness, my physical and emotional well-being. The term wellness embodies so much more than that! Wellness is defined as “the multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment” (Hettler, Six). I often ask myself if I’m well overall, typically my answer is no because, life is a roller coaster in each aspect of wellness. In my life something is always off whether it’s getting enough rest, finances or my health. At this time in my life I have areas that are in great balance, I although need to target the areas that need development. After taking a quality of life assessment, I’m able to understand and distinguish what my strengths and weakness are.
This paper discusses how IOM’s ecological model can be used to stop the AIDs pandemic which is a health issue globally. This is because the number of people infected with the disease has increased over the years, since the first case was reported. Statistics show that over 34 million people are infected globally. The disease has been declared a pandemic due to the effects it has caused globally. Therefore, urgency is needed to stop its spread by reducing the rate of infection.
What does treating the body, mind, and soul mean to you? And why is it important?
Survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) has a higher probability of a life time barriers associated with experience compared to their counterparts. The inquiry chosen focuses on the effectiveness of the Wellness-Program for female survivors of CSA. An evaluation of the program from participants and a qualitative study provides insight on the program and the effect it has on their life, health, and well-being. The commonality of the Wellness Program and the Self-Awareness Model (SAM) is utilizing the holistic (mind, body, and soul) approach in the treatment of CSA. The Wellness Program utilizes a nurse led group session where women could share their experiences with childhood sexual abuse (Agnarsdottir, Bender, Halldorsdottir, & Sigurdardottir, 2015). McSwain’s SAM program is used also throughout group sessions for women who are survivors CSA. The SAM program suggest to participants to discuss topics, such as, environment, friendships, and drugs as it relates to their issues with CSA (McSwain,2010). The programs envision by women sharing their stories participants in group sessions will feel empowered and realize they are not alone as a survivor of CSA.
What is wellness? Wellness is a way of being well or being healthy. But did you know that there are different types of wellness. The different types of wellness are social wellness, occupational wellness, spiritual wellness, physical wellness, intellectual wellness, emotional wellness, environmental wellness, and financial wellness. The biopsychosocial model of health is a multidimensional approach to health (Lecture 1, 2014). It focuses not only on the biology or physiology of a person, but also includes the psychology of a person and the manner in which society and culture influence health as well (Gurung, 2014). It was developed in the 21st century as an important theoretical framework to approaching health and medicine (Richtig, Trapp, Kapfhamer, Jenull, Richtig & Trapp, 2016).This approach makes the assumption that the mind and body connection is not only relevant but also vital to a person’s entire well being. It takes a holistic approach when treating an individual and can improve health in the
The medical model has been the predominant approach used by physicians in diagnosing and management of diseases and illness in most Western countries. The biomedical model of illness and healing focuses on purely biological factors, and excludes psychological, environmental, and social influences. According to this model, good health is the freedom from pain, disease, or defect. It focuses on physical processes that affect health, such as the biochemistry, physiology, and pathology of a condition. It does not account for social or psychological factors that could have a role in the illness. In this model, each illness has one underlying cause, and once that cause is removed,
6) Spiritual Health- includes developing a deep appreciation and acceptance for things that cannot be completely understood. It involves the tolerance of values and beliefs of others and participating in activities that are consistent with personal values.
I found chapter 1 to be very interesting. First off i had no idea there was seven components of wellness. I found spirituality to be an eye opener. After reading that section it really made me realize how important forgiveness really is. Learning to forgive is over all better for you health, physically and mentally. Another thing i found interesting in this chapter was the locus of control both external and internal. This really made me think about how others may think and see things. The chapter also talks about smoking and how it is accounted for the highest percentages of deaths and chronic disease. That part really hit close for me cause majority of my family smokes.
The average woman pays more attention to her family's health than her own health. However, it is also very important for women to realize that placing their health on the back burner might lead to health issues as they age. women's health and wellness is a growing issue in this country and around the world. The sooner that women start realizing this fact, the sooner they will have a healthier and more balanced life. Pursuing wellness begins with making a few lifestyle changes. Here is more on the subject.
My personal definition of wellness is, being healthy and contributing safely to our society. My health definition would be, working hard to keep oneself fit by working out and eating healthy. Along with taking supplements and vitamins. The greatest factors that influence you would have to be, family, friends and media. I picked those three because we hear them the most and we listen to our family and friends because we trust them. They would try to hurt us and always want the best for yourself. Even with our family and friends wanting the best, sometimes they can be wrong. Media influences us by hearing the same things many times a day. So we tend to think that is right or okay in our society. What are we always on, social media, along with
well-being relates to this because it is all about the focus of life going great. According
Health is defined by Straub as, “ a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. It involves physical as well as psychological and social well- being” (2012). The well being of an individual also includes social conditions, biological factors, and personality traits (Straub, 2012). Both health and wellness is highly looked over by individuals, this is until they understand how an illness destroys their body. However, to understand the views individuals have towards the concept of health and wellness one must first be aware of the definition of the term. According to the Sage Handbook of Health Psychology, Sutton, Baum, & Johnston (2004) explains the term health refers to a range of positive states of mental, physical, and social wellbeing. The term is not only determined by the absence of disease and illness but also by the variation of healthful signs composed of a person 's lifestyle. In addition, to physician’s findings of the illness, there are an assortment of environmental, opinionated, and behavioral factors that add to the possible reasons behind the individual’s health and illness. The purpose of the paper is to go over the many different views of health, events that made change come true, I’ll also provide the description of the biomedical model, the transition of the biomedical model into other fields of practice, and an explanation of the development of behavioral medicine.
Merriam-Webster defines wellness as a quality or state of being healthy. In common, wellness is defined as the motion of changing one’s lifestyle and embracing health enhancing behaviors. The notion of improving the state of health has a long history in an American culture. Common themes of eating the right foods, exercising, weight control and quitting smoking have been wildly spread in the last century and are echoed in every health promotion and disease prevention program. Wellness programs have been incorporated into law in forms of exceptions to promote health and reduce costs associated with absenteeism, healthcare spending and insurance premiums. The author of the article “Critical Perspective on Wellness” published in Journal of health politics, policy and law in 2014, argues that today’s workplace wellness programs give provision for discrimination. Moreover, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act further facilitate discriminatory treatment of employees based on their health status.
After recently losing 110 pounds, I have entered a new dimension of wellness. Now, while this has something about losing weight, what I 'm experiencing has more to do with being involved in a dynamic progression of becoming conscious of and making decisions toward a healthy and fulfilling life.
