Throughout the duration of this module, I have articulated my own philosophy of education as an intending education professional and will continue to develop this philosophy through personal experiences and insights from key educational thinkers. In this essay, I will discuss my developing philosophy of education which has been influenced by; my past experiences of education, theory that I have been presented with throughout this module and my aspirations for the future. Lately, there has been much talk in Ireland of "education reform". I believe the current education system does not suit the learning needs of individual students. I believe education should be about the development of the full potential of every student facilitated by an …show more content…
For a teacher, an analysis of their audience reveals differences among students in their learning environment. “The more thoroughly instructors understand the differences, the better chance they have of meeting the diverse learning needs of all of their students” (Felder and Brent, 2005). We as educators must care for the well-being and futures of our students. Education is influenced by the times we are living in. Students who come from low-income circumstances may have lower educational aspirations than their more economically advantaged peers. Sometimes, the academic levels of parents can have an effect on a student's aspirations. ''An educator must consider the characteristics of the students at their institution, the mind-set of the generation, the variety of learning styles and the cognitive development of students'' (Duq.edu, 2016). Throughout my experience of education, I have been introduced to a range of teachers with varying pedagogies. Some that you could connect with on a personal level and have a conversation with not relating to school work or exams and some that acted as dictators who treated students like 'containers' as expressed by Freire (1993): ''..it turns them into “containers,” into “receptacles” to be “filled” by the teacher''. I think I done better with teachers that understood me as an individual more than the teachers who regurgitated information to the class and expected us to regurgitate it back. As a student teacher, I think my past experience of education has influenced my teaching pedagogy and thus, my philosophy of education. Therefore, I think the teacher is a key point of connection in the school and in the learning experience of the emerging adult. Many people feel that the school is now responsible for most aspects of the development of the young person (Monahan, 2004). I think all students are individuals and should be treated
It is an undeniable fact that education is amongst one of the most powerful and important aspects of life. However, the topic on what true education really is and should be is highly controversial. There are many individuals who strongly stand by the education system in effect and there are also those who completely disagree with how it is implemented. It is made perfectly clear in Sydney J. Harris’s column, What True Education Should Do, that he is an individual who strongly dislikes the current education system. In Harris’s column, he continually references some of the most reputable individuals known in history. Harris makes many extremely important points in his column and effectively explains to readers exactly what true education should be.
As a teacher, it is important to acknowledge the diversity of students because teachers can be the biggest influence in children 's lives. My career will be affected by the students I teach. I can influence them to change their lives, strive to achieve things they didn 't think they could, and be an advocate for them. Teachers can affect change. My professional philosophy is to provide guidance for students.
Currently, I am responsible for managing the science instructional programs and personnel in a chartered middle school. As a supervisor for the department, I develop/source curriculum materials for teachers and collaborate with them to plan and implement instructional lessons daily. I manage the financial resources for the department and constantly monitor the teaching practices that will impact our organizational goal and vision.
As I prepare for my life long goal to be an educator, I continuously realize the complexity and great responsibility of this career. Instead of becoming overwhelmed and intimidated by these realizations, I try to concentrate my efforts on organizing my beliefs and goals. In this philosophy statement, I will display my beliefs and goals by discussing the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of public education, methods, and curriculum. This is a beginning basis of my philosophy of education.
Everyone would agree that education is a fundamental way of life. A means to learn something new. It’s intention is to mentally, physically, and emotionally benefit the person by putting them in a better place then they were previously in before. From the beginning of times people have relied and survived on past educators. There are many people that contribute to a individuals education. Starting off as a young child most of the information retrieved comes from home through parents, and loved ones. As they move into adolescents learning is obtained from multiple people including teachers, friends, and even through their surroundings. An ideal
When trying coming up with a personal philosophy of education, I had to ask myself what the purpose of education is. To me, the purpose of education is to teach students knowledge that is needed to make it through school and to succeed in the world after graduation. Anyone can go into teaching, but not every teacher can teach. Teachers go above and beyond to introduce methods, philosophies, and strategies to help their students learn, as well as, retain the information.
Throughout my four years of teaching I have learned that whether I am teaching honors level classes, or resource room classes, one thing always stays true, my personal philosophy of education. Three key components that I find valuable to my mission as a teacher include forming the whole child, making sure every student feels comfortable when they step foot into my classroom, and making sure that I provide the best support that I can for each individual student. In my current role, as a resource room and in class support teacher, I feel that I have more time to truly focus on each student. To help me focus on the students, I have a few valuable objects in my “backpack”, including a passbook, patience, and speakers.
My teaching style can be best described as one that is student centered. My teaching style incorporates hands on learning and students actively participating in lessons. I believe that students should be able to discover lessons on their own through hands on activity. Also, my teaching style focuses on the idea of enhancing individual development. I believe that students should be actively involved with their education on all levels. My students will be able to make choices about the content they will be learning and how to present their knowledge of the content. It is my belief that evaluation of student learning should varied. While many teachers rely on tests, I believe that students should be given options to give presentations, create posters, and other creative methods that also allow the teacher to gauge their understanding.
It is my belief that, through education, an individual will receive the skills and tools that are necessary to build a life that is successful and prosperous. I believe that, as teachers, it is our responsibility to ensure that learning takes place in a safe, open, and supportive environment. This will assist students to learn the important aspects of developing and fostering positive relationships with others. It is my desire, as a educator, to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is secure, supports risk-taking, and stimulates students to share ideas.
The purpose of education is to support our students in developing the skills, the knowledge, and the qualities that will allow them to be responsible, contributing members to society, as well as being contributing members to the well-being of their community.
In a world where educators are undervalued, undermined, and underpaid, it is imperative that teachers are in tune with their own beliefs about their purpose in a career that often lacks appreciation. This collection of beliefs is essential to combat the numerous citizens that are ignorant to the significance of the demanding role that educators fulfill in society. American educators dedicate their lives to the wellbeing of the general public by instilling essential information into the minds of children and adolescents, with the expected consequence that these students will be able to function and thrive in society. As a future educator, therefore, I believe that to take on the daunting task of shaping the nation’s future citizens will
Every teacher has their own way of teaching, which reflects back to the philosophy they believe in. As a future educator, my goal is to educate the student in ways they have not been taught before. Over time students come across teachers who generally do not care and just do it for the money and time off in the summer. When a student has a teacher who makes a difference in their life, it is very rewarding for both the teacher and student. In class we received a philosophical self-inventory. After grading these statements I have come to the conclusion that my philosophy is Progressivism.
The learning experience should be that of a collective nature where students are able to indiscriminately relate to the information, re-teach the information and have a balanced incorporation of all the learning centers in society; including the home and the church. The goal of this incorporation is to create a balanced learning environment that facilitates holistic development in the young mind. As professionals entrusted with the shaping of young minds, teachers must facilitate learning and personal, spiritual, ethical and academic development. My philosophy for education is a multi-part philosophy that encapsulates the idea of holistic and inclusive learning. The philosophy caters for the overall shaping and development of the young mind and includes aspects of balanced training, incorporated teachings and it generally focuses on training students to become teachers.
Since the beginning of education there have been many forms, which have been passed on from one generation to the next. Over the years education has evolved and is now seen as the education system all over the world. Today the education system is seen to be much more complex, but it still involves notions that have been around since the beginning of success, achievement and participation. Not only do these three aspects continue to contribute to the success of
Cultural and linguistic diversity is increasing in places all over the world at a remarkable rate. As the world becomes connected through language, it has become increasingly important to build an understanding and openness to different cultures and languages. Just as each student brings their own background knowledge and talents to the classroom, each teacher brings their own experiences that have shaped their philosophies of teaching. In a world filled with beautiful places to wander to, experiencing new cultures and languages has become a love and passion of mine. Combined with my devotion to the education field and my personal life experiences, a desire to teach in the TESOL career field was one that came quite easily. My mother was
