In the mobile phone industry, Apple’s main competitors would be Google who is the creators of the Android operating system which is used by a majority of non-Apple phones. As for the computer industry, Apples main competitors consist of Microsoft who had created the Windows operating system which is used and pre-installed on a large portion of competitor computers, this includes companies like Lenovo, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Acer. With so much competition in this area and the ever evolving ability of technology as described by Moore’s Law, companies can lose their competitive edge if they become complacent and stop trying to innovate.

The main focus of Apple’s mission statement is to provide its customers with the most advanced technology. “Microsoft has repeatedly tried to diversify…it be more of a follower” (James 3). Apple creates its products in order to surpass its competitors such as Microsoft. Apple not only wants to beat out its competitor with computers but also mobile devices. “They’re (Apple) happier selling 74.5 million iPhones” (James 3). Apple wants its customers to have a more personal device and be able to use it and love it at the same time. The iPhone is they number one most wanted device but many controversies may prohibit its advancement in the technological world. “Steve would never had made a bigger iPhone” (James 4). Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, created the iPhone 6 which is a larger iPhone and contradicts Steve Jobs’ idea.

It leads the word to a new technology on many kinds of electronic products, and creates many kinds of products such as cell phone, portable computer, table computer, media player, and monitor. Apple during many times leadership change, they found their market position finally. Steve Jobs’s uses great business strategy lead the Apple Company to accomplish their innovative products launched. Apple Inc. has many strengths attributed to its success, one of them being product development, “Apple’s process is complex, expensive and demanding. If you compare it to most business theories – it shouldn’t work. However, to date it has out-performed even the wildest of expectations” (Lashinsky). Apple didn’t create the electronic device market, however they implemented the touchscreen in a new way, by creating a simple device with limited buttons, and bringing a meaning to smartphone. They arguably put blackberry out of business, and influence companies like HTC, Motorola, Microsoft, and Samsung change their previous phone designs. Apple Inc. has also always been very good at advertising, marketing and distribution. They have 470 Apple stores in 17 countries, as well as many trading partners and online stores.

Apple Inc. is a technology company, which designs, produces and sells goods of the Computer, Music and Mobile-phone Industries. It is differentiated by its brand-perception and identification. Over the last couple of years, Apple has become a cult-brand, thanking it’s iLife, iTunes, QuickTime and iMac lines. Apple Inc.’s short-term goals is currently increasing the sales of the just launched iPad (the most innovative web=browser in market). In the long-run, Apple aims for the top of the market, becoming the number one leader.

The two firms being compared were Google and Apple, both firms dominate the intersection of technology and consumer access. In addition, they both compete across a huge range of sub-industries such as computing software, hardware, operating systems, applications and web browsing among others. However each firm takes a different approach from an organizational perspective.
