Within the next year being May 31, 2010, I hope to have achieved my goal of maintaining a weight ideal to my height and body structure. The preceding interpretation is one of what my success story might sound like. M. Thomas 6 My Success Story I had been a perfect size 6 my entire life, but when I became 28, I began eating compulsively. I loved to eat salty, crunchy snacks like nuts and chips. I gained 30 pounds in one year. I became devasted because I couldn’t fit into the cute little summer outfits I use to purchase at Rainbow. I then became cranky and lazy. I stopped excerising and went to a size 14 in two years. I realized it was time for me to do something. I refused to be a chubby, young, attractive, invisible person. I immediately located the USDA’s Personal Pyramid Plan on the internet. I set up my own program to loose weight. First I restablished a moderate exercise program. I started my program with 30 minute of exercise daily . I did things like crunches, walking, and bicycling. Secondly, I began eating more nutritionally. I selected foods from the USDA Food Pyramid groups. I made sure that vegetables and fruits were a part of my daily diet. I limited sweets and salty crunchy snacks. Finally at work a joined our bowling team and support group. We would bowl every Wednesday night. Then every fourth Friday we have a nutritional lunch at Subway. When I started to loose weight I began to shop again. I’d always love

With growing population it is normal to expect this change to affect environmental and health nationwide. By making ourselves aware of these issues allows preparations and changes to decrease chances of diseases and viruses. The biggest environmental concern is obesity because in the last two decades Americans have witnessed noticeable changes in the average body formation by a 10 percent increase. This has become the number one nutritional concern on the public health agenda. Although many do not understand how this obesity epidemic began but speculation is contributed to the environmental changes. Many believe the lack of exercise versus consumption of food is the most logical reason for obesity. The concern of fast food has also remained in the spotlight for unhealthy, greasy, high calorie food. Obesity can contribute to other health concerns such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. With growing population and the increase in obesity finding a solution for this concern is important.
Recently I have been motivated by my friend Adrian’s life changing decision of putting behind his desire of just letting go and being determined to live a healthy life. I have always had an active life and enjoy playing sports but figured that it wouldn’t be enough and I am currently on a diet which has cut down on my calorie and sugar level intake. Nowadays I take the time to read nutrition labels and measure portion sizes which make a great difference. Every now and then I have a break and consume foods that are not healthy but I now I am doing better now. It is a constant struggle to not get tempted into a delicious looking pizza or some perfectly rounded donuts but I stay motivated to achieve my
Its a combo of a few things for me. First I started by downloading the app "Myfitness Pal" by underarmer (the free one of corse). There you plug in your current weight and then your goal weight, and it give you a "calorie limit" to kind of start off with. Then I did some research on healthier breakfast and lunch choices (leaving dinner to eat shit food lol but within the calorie limit). So for example I would eat oat meal for breakfast with almond milk instead of regular milk, or toast with avocado instead of a bagel with butter. I also carried that into my lunchs at work (let alone I started packing them, so that really helped). But for the first moth or so I wouldn't change my dinners, on the amount, to stay within the calorie limit, this way I could still enjoy food I wasn't willing to give up.
The purpose of this paper is to explain my definition of Intellectual, emotional, social and physical wellness. Also the purpose is to set certain goals for myself so I have a standard that I can attain to.
For years cartoons have depicted obese kids rolling down streets; however, this may become an unfortunate truth. The obesity epidemic in America has become an enormous issue. Obesity, which is the accurate term to describe being above overweight on the body mass index (bmi), is an epidemic with various causes that can have staggering effects. Industries have found ways to market their food products in order to gain money, uncaring of the trouble and harm they may be causing to others. Also, the obesity epidemic has become a an increasingly controversial political topic being discussed nationwide. The epidemic has gotten quite out of hand; notwithstanding, there are ways to fix this growing crisis.
“Health is like money,” humorist Josh Billings once said. “We never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.” Though Billings did not live to see the twenty-first century, his musings are still relevant to adults and young children alike today. Yet the question remains for many Americans and other people worldwide: how may we maintain our health? The answer is quite simple: remember that what you eat, think, and do now will affect the life of your future self. I have realized this truth and am on the road to a healthy lifestyle through being mentally, physically, and internally healthy. Here is how.
It starts with first getting rid of a large amount of what you're probably used to eating today. At the age of fourteen, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which is an imbalance of reproductive hormones, in short. PCOS makes it very difficult to use insulin to convert carbohydrates into energy. A common characteristic of PCOS is obesity. Even then, eight years ago, I knew I needed to maintain of lifestyle of healthy eating and daily physical activity. But, during a self-assessment period, I realized I would eat unhealthy meals multiple times per week. My choices were your typical “hot and ready” meals, fast-food items, or just unhealthy snacks supplemented for lunch or dinner. With the stresses of school and work, quick-grabs were very convenient and oddly satisfying. These environments not only limited physical activity, but required prolonged sitting. Consequently, a lifestyle of inactivity resulted. I knew that too much stress, too much eating, and not enough exercise would soon lead to a sedentary lifestyle, but I did not have the discipline, interest, or time to make the necessary changes. I thought I reached the point of no return when I began eating just because I had access to it or in response to stress. Guilty and ashamed, I realized I was not eating because I was hungry, but because of stress and availability. Overtime, I recognized I
In the above paragraph I have gained the knowledge on how to balance me and my family's lifestyle. I already knew we needed to be eating health and staying active. It is hard to do so in a busy world. But, this course has definitely reinforced on how to stay healthy and fit and implement new things in my life. Especially helped reinforce with my diabetes.
Health and wellness are increasingly being used. Health actually is more to a medical and describes the mental and physical state of a person. It will reflect a lack of disease of a person. In the contrary, wellness is defined as the overall process of maintaining a state of good health of a person. Wellness involves conscious decisions on the part of the individual, while health simply describes a person's condition of the body. However, the combined phrase health and wellness showed the meaning of the state of complete physical, mental, emotional health and social wellbeing, and it is when a person is absence of disease.
