Lifelong professional development is a cornerstone component of nursing practice, and as such, early integration of professional development habits and strategies is key to excellence in nursing practice. In this paper, I will reflect on my own professional development, explore my role as a mentor, apply Albert Bandura’s nursing theory to my practice, and set future goals.

Professional Reflection Paper
I have experience significant growth and increased awareness regarding professional development this semester and over the past three years. The decision to enter nursing school was not one that I was fully confident in when I started out, but what I have realized is that at the very least the skills and ways of thinking I have learned will serve me well should I ever decide to pursue another career path. On reflection, it is heartening to see how far I have come (see Appendix B).
Mentorship Experience
My experience working with my first-year buddy was more stressful than I had anticipated it would be. I had expectations of the relationship based on my buddy experience in semester five that were not even remotely close to my experience in this course, namely, that my buddy would be enthusiastic and easy to engage through the process. After a long period of silence in an effort to solicit a reply, I cc’d both of our instructors in an email to my buddy. The email took upwards of half an hour to compose, as I did not want to come across overbearing or righteous, however when I finally closed out of the email I found that she had replied to a previously unanswered email. While I don’t regret escalating issues as needed, next time I will solicit more than one means of contacting my buddy so that I can explore other avenues of communication
