Types of Abuse
As a practitioner we need to have knowledge of different signs and indications for when a child is abused and harmed. Abuse, harm of Children and Young People can be in different forms. It’s critical that we have the most up to date training in safeguarding as the signs and symptoms, indicators and behaviours of abuse in children and young people. The signs may include both physical and behavioural changes. Can often affect their health and their development. There are four types of abuse:
• Physical abuse
• Emotional abuse
• Sexual abuse
• Neglect
1. Physical abuse, physical injuries may come from children being hit, punched, kicked or beaten which can cause pinch marks or bruising, cuts, burns, Bruising around the neck or
Types of physical abuse are hard hitting, kicking or punching; whipping; burns; immersion in; scalding water; shaking; tying child to object; throwing child or things at child; choking or gagging; fracturing; administering excessive doses of medications or drugs; and withholding medications
Physical abuse is deliberately hurting a child causing injuries such as bruises, broken bones, burns or cuts. This can also be when a parent or career induces illness on a child; this can be through giving the child medicine they don’t need to make them unwell. The signs a child could be going through this are, being withdrawn from activates and playing with children, being clingy, not eating properly, having trouble sleeping, wetting the bed and being anxious within them self.
Toddlers are prone to abuse because they are very active at this age. They are learning new things at this age, it is a time of great cognitive,emotional and social development. The type of abuse seen among this age group can be physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect . The nurse who is assessing this child can see emotional signs of abuse like unhappiness and crying, frightened and distressed, and aggressive behavior .They may show signs of physical neglect and malnourishment e.t.c. Signs of physical abuse in toddlers may include injuries that have pattern, does not heal evenly, injuries in places like the inner thigh and arm, buttocks or genitals and backs. Physical abuse is where a person is physically hurt or injured purposely by another person with the intention to cause them harm. Physical abuse includes hitting, slapping, kicking, biting, head butting, drowning, burning etc and often occurs in places that are easy to hide under clothing. Physical child abuse is any form of physical injuries inflicted upon the child with cruel and/or malicious intent. within this assignment I will be talking about the factors which could lead to suspicion of child maltreatment or abuse, different strategies and methods that are used in order to minimise the harm to children, young people and their families where and when the abuse is confirmed. I will also be talking about the responses where child maltreatment or abuse is suspected or confirmed relating to current legislations and policies.
Every day children around the world are being abused by their parents, trusted adult, caregiver and peers. Children are constantly suffering when there are things that everyone as a community can do help them. Psychologists, social workers and the victims to childhood abuse have studied and worked together to establish precautionary measures to execute child abuse all together.

Some of the signs and symptoms of physical abuse are bruises in places that would not be associated with a child falling over accidentally, these may happen frequently. They maybe finger marks from being grabbed, burns

Emotional abuse is also much more common than the other types of child abuse. It can include behaviors such as ridicule, intimidation, ejection, and humiliation. “Approximately one- third of children experience emotional abuse.” Like any other abuse, emotional abuse can scar a child for life.
There are four main types of child abuse physical, psychological/emotional, sexual and neglect. Physical abuse is prominent in Australia and it can affect a child in a negative way, some characteristics that define physical abuse are- hitting, slapping, striking and or using objects. It has been shown that 2.4% of children have been hit and an additional 8.5% have been abuse with the assistance of an object.
The fifth type of abuse is neglect, it is when the abuser is ignoring the child at all times, the abuser does not feed the child, give them clothes, or provide any needs to help the child survive day to day. The abuser could also make the child fend for themselves on everything. Signs of neglect are if the child wears the same clothes for many days, or only have a few to rotate through, if the child smells for many days or weeks, if the child is hungry, or if the child refuses to go home.
The effects of child abuse are agreed upon by experts that child abuse is a global issue that presents with life-long emotional, physical and developmental scares and even death. This issue needs further systemic review and research to aid in prevention strategies that can be best implemented in the detection and reporting of abuse. “According to the World
There are different types of child abuse. However the core* of child abuse is all the same. It always leaves a huge effect on the child. Children need predictability*, structure, clear
