The factors that have been shown to affect sleep quality or sleep patterns include staying up late, using social networking, and partying. This research uses a simple, unique survey instrument. A total of fifty college students participated in the study. Results substantiate the hypothesis that social media use is heavy among college students, and that the use of social media will be correlated with less sleep and less effective study habits. Future research may discover ways of helping students develop more balanced approaches to their academic, online, and social lives.

Most high school students aren't getting enough sleep. Due to school starting early some of the high school students are only getting a few hours of sleep. When high school students don't get enough sleep during a school night they are most likely to perform poorly in school. Sleep deprivation also magnifies alcohol's effects on the body, so a fatigued person who drinks will become much more impaired than someone who is well-rested.
Factors in our environment can directly influence our sleep or stress. Does lack of sleep cause stress or does stress cause lack of sleep? There has been countless research done on stress and on ways to improve sleeping habits. By reading “Colleges open their eyes: ZZZs are key to GPA” by Justin Pope, and “CMU responds to ‘stress culture’ on campus” by Bill Schackner helped to further understand the posed question above. Even though both articles discuses university students and how the university is trying to help them, Pope’s article speaks about university students’ lack of sleep, while Schackner’s article speaks about university students’ stress levels. Both Pope and Schackner make convincing arguments however, I believe they are too general
