Sleep deprivation is prevalent in industrialized societies and has been linked to serious health issues and traffic accidents. Sleep deprivation and sleep disorders among college students is an area of concern among researchers, because of the relationship between quality sleep and quality of academic performance. The factors that have been shown to affect sleep quality or sleep patterns include staying up late, using social networking, and partying. This research uses a simple, unique survey instrument. A total of fifty college students participated in the study. Results substantiate the hypothesis that social media use is heavy among college students, and that the use of social media will be correlated with less sleep and less effective study habits. Future research may discover ways of helping students develop more balanced approaches to their academic, online, and social lives.

In today’s society, many people go through many days yawning, fighting to stay awake and indulging in many cups of coffee. If you were to ask them what the cause of their restlessness was, the popular statement would be a lack of sleep. However, most would not dare to think that a lack of sleep could cause multiple issues in everyday life. This problem has been seen to peak during the good ole college days. It is hard to imagine that those days of all-night cramming sessions and those late nights partying causing students to be sleep deprived could lead to a variety of problems like stress, long term insomnia, and a weakened immune system.

A delightful sleep is one of the most satisfying human experiences with a role to play in supporting a good mood and cognitive acuity as well as in promoting physiologic balance and resilience (Chittora, Jain and Suhalka). People think because they get an insufficient number of hours of sleep, they will not have an emotional impact by it. Sleep is a required need for peoples’ day to day life to be able to perform and stay healthy emotionally and physically. The effects of sleep deprivation are an issue because it affects mood, performance, and health.

How should we go about our school days? This question has been asked many times by different people. What type of schedules, classes, and learning skills will set our children up for a brighter future? That is honestly a very good question, but the only problem is that everyone is different. If i could start up my own school I would make sure that students could reach above their expectations and learn to make society great again.

Most high school students aren't getting enough sleep. Due to school starting early some of the high school students are only getting a few hours of sleep. When high school students don't get enough sleep during a school night they are most likely to perform poorly in school. Although this article has some major strengths, major weaknesses, and gaps, it still supports the reasoning of why high school students are sleep deprived and what are some of the things we can do to get enough sleep and have an excellent performance in school.

Getting too little sleep creates a "sleep debt," which is much like being overdrawn at a bank. Many studies make it clear that sleep deprivation is dangerous. Sleep-deprived people who are tested by using a driving simulator or by performing a hand-eye coordination task perform as badly as or worse than those who are intoxicated. Sleep deprivation also magnifies alcohol's effects on the body, so a fatigued person who drinks will become much more impaired than someone who is well-rested.

Factors in our environment can directly influence our sleep or stress. Does lack of sleep cause stress or does stress cause lack of sleep? There has been countless research done on stress and on ways to improve sleeping habits. By reading “Colleges open their eyes: ZZZs are key to GPA” by Justin Pope, and “CMU responds to ‘stress culture’ on campus” by Bill Schackner helped to further understand the posed question above. Even though both articles discuses university students and how the university is trying to help them, Pope’s article speaks about university students’ lack of sleep, while Schackner’s article speaks about university students’ stress levels. Both Pope and Schackner make convincing arguments however, I believe they are too general
