Over the course of the semester, I have been prompted to take a look at some of the less talked about aspects of writing, specifically in business. Through individual investigation and classroom reinforcement, this led to the discovery that writing in itself is essentially without bounds. This means that writing is not confined to any of the genres that are conventionally though of as writing, such as a newspaper or an essay. Going beyond the forms that writing can take, it is also important to note why writing takes particular forms and why certain genres are more successful at conveying a message than others. Through my research, a new world of ideas was opened up that enlightened me to the concept that there is much more than the words …show more content…
The objective is to persuade administrators and educators to realize this gap in the curriculum and make changes accordingly. I hope that the article will make its way into the hands of someone with the ability to make changes and progress will be made to start educating students in this subject area. Without a curriculum update, the business world may continue to suffer substantial losses, which are undoubtedly preventable through a more contoured education to the short genre universality we see today.
Before I dove into the article, I had to assess what platform would be most effective in accomplishing my end goal. For obvious reasons, many of those offered would not be effective in promoting my objective. Some were because they didn’t offer the ability to include supplements and facts to support my argument and others were because they went directly against my idea (an essay). I concluded that a concise, yet information rich article would be most successful. This was because it is not too long, but is long enough to make the point with ample support. I felt I was able to successful support the article with outside data through the incorporation of hyperlinks. These worked in place of a “works cited” page and gave reference to all of the facts that I cited in the piece. Along with these additions to my writing, I included a photo at the top of the page that shows students using cell phones during class time.
Writing is a powerful tool for communication and connection. As an extension and expression of the mind, writing is as much about the mental processes of the author as it is about the final marks laid to paper. As we write, we hold in mind our own thoughts on the work, anticipate the reader’s thoughts, and think both in concrete and abstract ways in order to accomplish the task at hand. Whether an academic research paper, a novel, or text message to friends, writing seeks to engage, persuade, or impress concepts upon an audience. Like language and other art forms in general, the practice of writing is ever-evolving and is subject to cultural and contextual influence, expectations, and conventions. Each writer holds a theory
This memorandum offers insight about writing in the business world and the different challenges people face. I took a professional out to lunch to conduct an interview on the writing challenges he faces in his career.
Writing is a practice that most of us were taught when we were young. We were taught the basics of grammar, how to form a sentence, conjunction words, how to write paragraphs and more. Although we have learned this skill while growing up and have used the skill every year after entering kindergarten, this does not mean our writing process will ensure the best work. The authors that I chose each encourage their audience to excel in the art of writing in their own way to help with the writing process.
Most elements of writing (development, organization, and style) fit task, purpose, and audience. Some identifiable mismatches.
In Mary Pipher’s “Writing to Connect”, Karen Cangialosi’s “Healing Through the Written Word”, and Sam Dillon’s “What Corporate America Can’t Build: A Sentence” each writer talks about the unlimited importance of writing. Each writer has a different but extremely valid piece to their work.
Every day consists of writing, whether it is informal or formal. Writing comes in different forms including, emails, essays, text messages, and even note taking in class. I have gathered materials and assignments in my major to analyze what kind of writing is required and how it should be executed. What I discovered was surprising, but almost every piece of research revealed that writing is not incredibly important in my field of study.
A learner’s ability to communicate effectively through writing to his/her target audiences is a major prerequisite for academic success. It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I have been exposed to by my English teachers through different grades have helped me
Writing presents it’s own challenges to those who write books and articles daily; and to those who write less frequently. Getting around using punctuation, placing commas, and figuring out how to start an essay always seemed to be the biggest challenges for me. Through practice is the only way I’ve come to be masterful over my own writing style, even though there is always room for improvement. Because each time someone sits down to write a letter, article, or book; they are practicing their writing style and ultimately becoming better writers. Many people find writing to be a hassle or too cumbersome in a day in age of technology and the internet supplying information to the public so immediate, but everyone must overcome challenges that they
On Monday 23 May 2016, at approximately 1339hrs, I 6246 Leading Rate Joseph S was in my office at the Welfare/Housing department located at #31 St. Vincent Street Port of Spain. Present in the office at the time was Sgt Cassie R and L/Cpl Neptune. Whilst performing my daily duties in the office, I was about to use the telefax machine to make a copy of a document which is not an unusual function carried out by the members of the office. As I was about to do so, I was stopped by Sgt Cassie who said “yuh can’t copy nuttin they.” Being a bit confused about his uttered word I asked the question “why Sgt Cassie.” He then replied in a loud tone “don’t make no fucking copy LR.” I responded to the Sgt by saying “I am a grown woman bordering Petty

In college our primary and typical audience is our professors, that’s why we are required to take composition I and II for academic writing. They want to read what we have written in order to determine if we have mastered the course content. But as an employee or worker, our audience is unknown with varying backgrounds, so colleges should adopt a focus that models on business writing. The focus on business writing is clarity, easy to read and short. In college, we primarily write essays, research papers, and lab
