1. The first application involves utilization of the computer as a record keeper and retriever. Teachers and administrators programme the computer for processing data of the students for instructional purposes such as printing report cards, storing and retrieving tests and examinations results, pertinent details about students (age, sex, community, family background etc.) and scheduling students for classes in the case of streaming of students ability wise or due to large strength of the college or shift system, for the purpose of guidance and counseling , cumulative records, counsellor’s records, file and details about vocational interest, aptitude and information and psychological test results can be stored in the computer and retrieve as and when needed.
2. The second is to use the computer as a laboratory computing device, which is one of the most frequently used educational application. A single terminal, teletype or electronic typewriter is installed in the classroom with a direct access to an externally placed computer. Students are encouraged to develop their regular classroom assignments. Talented and over-achieving students can be encouraged to develop their own software of help the peer group in preparing software to suit

This makes it possible for the computer to accept and act upon a variety of different kinds of response from the learner and to provide information in textual, graphical, and animated form (Rushby, 1989). Kaput (1992) enlisted there are three advantages of usage of technology in teaching and learning; (i) interactivity, (ii) connectivity and (iii) controlling of learning environments. Furthermore computer suggest opportunities for learner-control, improved enthusiasm, associations to the real world, and enhance student achievement as measured in variety of ways, including, but not exclusively limited to, “standardized achievement
Classrooms today look almost nothing like the classrooms of past generations. Modern classrooms revolve around technology, every room has either a projector or smart board front and center. A significant amount of homework is submitted digitally, and a computer is often a class requirement. Many studies have shown the positive effects these teaching and learning techniques have, and the results are not often disputed. Technology is helping educate students even at the elementary level, but studies are showing a decline in average IQ compared to data collected in the last half a century or so when this technology didn’t exist. A study by the U.S. Census Bureau showed a 2.44-point IQ drop from 1950 to 2000, and predicts an additional
Technology in the classroom is important for teachers, parents, and students alike, because technology use has become a necessary skill for survival in today’s vastly expanding technology driven global economy. Research has shown an increase in student’s success rates when exposed to technology in the classroom. Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
Access to many fun and interactive tools motivates and students to engage in academic related activities (“Use of Technology…”). When classes are computer based, students like them more and have a positive attitude towards learning (“The Impact of…”). Furthermore, Computer based education lets students learn more in less time (“The Impact of…”). Defining goals, making decisions, and and actively thinking are all positive outcomes of technology use (“Effects of
Yes there are some cons to this argument but I think the pros overrule the cons. There are much more reasons why technology is good in the classroom rather than it being bad in the classroom. For example, technology can be used as a reward system to help children get their work done and respect students and teachers in the classroom. The first piece of evidence for this reason is that one of many articles say that since technology is what a lot of kids want, the parents can use it as a reward system so the kid will get his/her work done. For example,if the kid does his/her homework then the kid will be able to play his/her game on the kids computer after words. The second piece of evidence is that the article called”Children, Adolescents, and the
With the integration of technology, students get direct, individualized instruction from the computer. This form of supplemental teaching allows them to engage with the information at times that are most convenient for them and helps them become more self-directed in the learning process. It also gives the teacher more time to accomplish classroom objectives, while freeing them up to help the students who might be struggling with certain lessons.
In our progressive society, we are all aware of the development of technology and the effect it has had on daily lives. People use technology as a way to communicate with each other, a form of entertainment, or as a tool to give them instant information at all times. Technology has a significant influence on many different parts of society. Concerning education, certain electronic devices such as computers, smart boards, and tablets assist the learning process for students. However, the issue of technology in education has evolved. Some claim that technology in the classroom has educational benefits, yet others believe this is simply a paradox and that technology creates problems in the classroom. This essay discusses how integrating new technologies in the classroom can be a detriment to the learning process, but also simultaneously can help with the academic achievement of young students.
Most students today use technology throughout their school day. Uses for technology can be found for every subject matter a student has. Some of the most widely used tools are found in the English and Language Arts classes. Writing on word processors allows students to cut-and-paste, save their work, and use spell checkers and thesauruses. With technology students are also given advantages in learning how to read. Reading programs use
On any given day, teens in the United States spend about nine hours using technology, according to a recent report (Common Sense Media). This nine hours is more time than teenagers spend sleeping, completing homework, or interacting with family. In recent years, constant access to the internet and social networking sites has created an addiction- a reliance that today’s youth can’t navigate around. Simultaneous with the greater presence of technology is greater success in the classroom. Over the past decade, the number of students who pass AP exams every year has quintupled (Forbes). But when it comes to basic skills such as holding a conversation, students are falling short. If the same amount of energy being put into teaching BC
Interest in information system has increased during the recent years not only in education but also in all areas where resources are managed. Student information system has always been a difficult task, but it is more so today than ever before, where administrators uses the traditional way of filing records on a cabinet. As the population of the students goes up, it is becoming more complex. Data should be stored in safer places, and can be retrieved easily and fast when someone needs it. Administrator’s task has becoming more complex, there have been efforts to improve the effectiveness of problems solving central to this are quantitative techniques and electronic devices such as computers. In the field of education,
Greer (2008) believed successful implementation of technology provided students competitive advantages regarding academic performance and also provided teachers with opportunities to create prescriptive and engaging lessons within an interactive educational environment. ChanLin (2007) found classroom instruction integrated with technology, as opposed to more traditional instructional methods, increased overall student achievement. Wellburn (1996) conducted an extensive review of quantitative research studies about educational technology and effects on student achievement. She found that the majority of studies showed technology’s positive impact on student learning, including increased achievement on standardized test. Wellburn concluded “the use of technology as a learning tool can make a measurable difference in student achievement” (p.6).
With the increasing use of technology in the classroom, learning does not have to come solely from the teacher. The computer programs that are being produced and used act as tutors from which the students are able to get extended time to learn about the topic or subject being discussed. In “Technology in Education” a 1986 study called “Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow” (ACOT) was performed and negative results were hoping to be found based on the long amount of time that students and teachers were at computers. ACOT allowed for each student and teacher to receive two computers: one to keep at school and another to take home. The overall idea of this study was to see the effect of the computers on the teachers and the students. When the results
In this system, students may find out about his concerns through software on education by using computer. In this type of education, a student may gain from what computer offers to the extent that his skills in computer use allows for. He may have simulations, remote education, internet learning, etc. In today’s computers, there is one way message. And students are limited by what this message offers. Computer is a vital requirement of computer supported learning, computer assisted education, remote learning and internet learning. Some research in this area indicate that computers have positive effect on learning. (Alacapınar,2006;Aksin,2006)
Adolescents are incorporating their technology communication throughout their day. School authorities argue that these media are distracting, isolating, and disruptive (Subrahmanyam & Greenfield, 2008). Students do not separate themselves from their electronics while in school, which has risen concerns that they may be using their technology to cheat (use their cell phone camera to copy) or to participate in illegal activities (Subrahmanyam & Greenfield, 2008). Since more and more students are relying on the technology, some educators feel the urged to incorporate or allow students to use their technology during classroom (Nowell, 2014). Schools across the United States had banned the idea of using technology during school hours, as it has been labeled as disruptive, but not all educators feel that way (Nowell, 2014). Educators emphasized that texting can be used to send reminders home, communicate with students and parents, and serve as a student response system; however, participants did not recognize texting as a feature to be used in the classroom but rather as a barrier to integration (Thomas & O’Bannon, 2013). In a study by Nowell (2014) demonstrated how teachers in an urban high school employed mobile phones and different social media sites to build relationships, extend classroom learning online, tackle the digital divide, and to teach twenty-first century literacies and other life skills. Thomas and O’Bannon (2013) explained a study (Thomas & Orthober, 2011) that
Abstract: Nowadays, Digital world is constantly evolving. Nearly every aspect of human life is affected by ICT i.e. from working to socialising, learning to playing, sharing to conferencing, one cannot think without information technology. The technological ages has changed the ways through which people communicate, meet, seek help, search and access information and even learn and take exams also. Online population uses many devices like computers, TV and mobile phones to achieve their goals. This paper discusses how ICT effects today our learning and how the schooling has been changing day by day.
Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
