Abstract In the last 30 years, technological advances have begun to change how students acquire knowledge. They do not need to depend on the teacher to tell them what they should know. Textbooks have changed from page after page of printed text with a few simple black-and-white line illustrations or graphs to glossy color publications with 3-D computer-aided illustrations that occupy more space than the text. Now, textbooks come with a lot of technology-driven aancillaries: interactive CDs, websites, animations, and simulated activities which are defiantly far better ways to transfer information as to the methods, thatmethods that was almost unimaginable years ago. The teachers were the primary source of information and knowledge. Books …show more content…
This interested me to research on the effect of interactive classroom on student achievement and attitude. We often hear talk about interventions and differentiating within the classroom structure. Every teacher wants the best for her students. Hours are exhausted in lesson plans and configuring resources. The question arises are the students really benefiting from all the time and resources that are being invested what are the real facts and how do the students feel about their learning environment. This question becomes more prominent and meaningful when it comes to Special ED students. Is the water down text books enough for them? How do they feel about the way they are being taught?
CHANGES We know one thing that our students can do very well on their own is memorize facts. But, scientific education reform in the last 10 years have been passion for teachers to move away from memorization of unconnected facts and instead, accentuate better conceptual understanding of basic principles. UnfortunatelyHowever, progress in this arena hass been very slow, particularly at the primary level. Therefore, in the rest of this discussion, I would like to inspect three aspects of teaching in the 21st century that I believe support improved student learning. What initially happens in an interactive classroom, and how does it differvary from the traditional classroomlecture? Next, what happens to students; when they
Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.
Through these technological advances in the classroom, students will be able to engage more in the curriculum they are learning. Students will have what is known as an active form of education in which students can cooperate, and where combined intellect will become the centerpiece of instruction. (Jo, 2015)
Engaging students in the classroom can be a difficult task. Understanding the process of how students learn can help a teacher adapt the lesson to meet the needs of all students. I will encounter students that are not intrinsically motivated so I will need to find different ways to motivate each and every student. Understanding how my students learn can provide me with insights as to how to help each student learn which will minimize classroom management problems.
A modernized education is imperative because students learn better with the use of technology. In order to succeed in the field of education, students must have a sense of today’s fast paced society. With the use of advanced technology in the classroom, students will be able to apply acquired material to the real world. While the old ways of teaching
With developments in technology growing exponentially, teachers must show students how to think critically and problem solve, using factual information as a primary resource. By mastering these skills, students become prepared for their college and careers, which will most likely involve some form of technology that has not yet been invented. This will influence many of the decisions I make as a teacher. Instead of assigning a reading passage and then comprehension questions to answer after, I can encourage students to discuss what they read and make connections to their own lives, research a topic for different perspectives or deeper details, or give students opportunities to present what they know to their peers and me in creative ways.
Many educators are embracing the use of electronic textbooks for a variety of reasons. Ken White, an instructor at Everett Community College, points out that some older students may have a hard time transitioning to e-textbooks but younger generations of students will be much more successful at making the conversion (Moving towards virtual textbooks). The trend seems to be that electronic devices of all sorts are becoming more and more popular. As these devices continue to permeate our culture, integrating them as soon and as frequently as possible into the classroom will help students adjust to using them now and in the future. White even uses the new textbook format because, “[Electronic textbooks] make me really look at my teaching” (Moving towards virtual textbooks). As a teacher, he is adopting the trend of going digital. By re-evaluating his teaching method, he will be able to approach his subject from a different angle that might be more
It appears traditional teaching methods in many schools across the nation are undergoing significant changes, mostly due to the technological world we live in, and if this does not concern you, it should. It is not only that printing has replaced cursive writing; spell check has replaced the dictionary, or researching any topic has become a relatively easy task with Internet availability, the effects of these changes go much deeper. While there is no harm in saving time and using different or more profound methods that surely have made our lives easier, the simple fact is these things are mechanical advances made from computer technology, but they will never replace a person’s brain, analytical thinking skills and thought processes. Computers
Every day the world is changing and things are done differently. Technology has also affected the way students are taught and in which they learn. It has changed the classroom. Technology saves us time and allows us to access material in only minutes. “The Internet and online subscription databases, even as a supplement to the printed works in the library, allow students to see, and force them to consider or reject, points of view that they might never have encountered in decades past” (Gow 4).With all the time technology produces, it also has downsides and it also may have created a less intelligent society.
The three main components of interactive pedagogy are learner, teacher and environment. The one embarking in the process of acquiring new knowledge by utilizing his own resources is known as the learner. He wishes to assimilate the new knowledge. The educator is the person who leads the way to the learner. He acts as a facilitator in this process of learning. The various physical locations, contexts and culture in which students acquire knowledge is called the learning environment. It includes both the outside-of-school locations, outdoor environment and the classroom itself. The interactions between the three stakeholders can take place in the various ways. Some of the ways could be students working with various objects individually or in groups to solve problems, and exploring spaces other than the classroom, pupils collaborating in pairs or small groups to make meaning of the lesson with the support of their teacher to obtain information and ask questions to support learning. In this way, interactive pedagogy can be termed as active pedagogy.
Today’s education differs much from the education fifty years ago. One of the reasons they are so different is because of technology. In the past fifty years the world of technology has grown tremendously, affecting everything, including education. A few things that have been brought into the world of education are computers, video and digital equipment such as DVDs, digital cameras and recording devices. The technology also includes information presentation technologies which includes the Smart Board, and different interactive whiteboards. There are many more that schools did not have fifty years ago.
The education system around the world has progressed and changed in a plentiful amount of ways, and the concept of knowledge and learning has changed in modern day. For example, certain schools around the globe are moving on to implementing technology in classrooms because it provides many benefits and statistical research that states how students are improving their academic readiness because of the instant access to information, a greater engagement and interactive process in learning, and the personalization that instructors can do towards the educational experience that students receive. The benefits of technology in class can be rather debatable, for there are people who think it's a distraction, but it certainly seems to be beneficial according to the increase of passing percentages in schools.
Techniques and skills need to be learnt, and cannot be replaced by the convenience of technology. In the primary years, students ought to be grounded with the basics. Once they miss this window, it requires them more to be trained later in life. I marvel at the speed of our technology advancement, but how I desire to see academic advancement in our next generation.
The market for textbooks is constantly changing. As the demand for certain features in textbooks increases each supplier in the supply chain’s role will change and evolve. Authors need to be aware of the needs of the universities; books need to be concise yet full of information. Authors continuously need to update data and information in all textbooks. Text editors need to keep up with the authors and the ever changing data and information provided to students in textbooks; they need to be able to adapt to other forms of text as well such as e-books. As technology evolves as does the need for better graphics in textbooks. Many students are visual learners and graphic designers need to be aware of this. We have certainly come a long way in terms of graphics in textbooks and the need will only keep increasing. Printing companies also need to be kept in the know, and possibly develop new technology to make it easier to predict the demand for each textbook and even the possibility of e-books being the dominant form of text. As the industry grows and changes as will the roles of each supplier and everyone needs to look toward the future and realize the changes that are happening.
There are many aspects to teaching and as a teacher it is necessary to understand the most important aspects of teaching and how they should be incorporated into the classroom. A teacher’s most important job is not to teach specific material but to build relationships with the students and ensure they feel safe and cared for. Once the teacher is able to ensure this then they should focus on teaching, however teaching is more than listing off facts and sharing information with the students. As teachers it is essential we try to engage our students. There are many ways to engage students and each teacher as a specific way they get their classroom involved in learning. During my field experience I have learned the importance of being able to engage students and I have seen what a classroom looks like when students are not engaged. My field experience has helped to reflect on student engagement and how I would place the experience in my philosophy of education.
Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
