Learning Should Be Dynamic Darryl Boynton EDUC 604-D03 LUO Dr. Murray Williams May 8, 2015 Abstract The educational philosophy which I have come to embrace stems in large part from my Christian worldview. As the basis for the truth in my life the Bible teaches me how to treat others as well who I will ultimately have to answer to for the students that I will have the pleasure of teaching which is God. To this end, I must provide the very best learning environment for each and every one of my students in the classroom that may be diverse in most cases today. Therefore, my educational philosophy is simple. The learning environment must be dynamic in nature or constantly changing and adapting to the world around us. Included in my definition of a dynamic learning environment should include elements of productivity, creativity, challenges, be progressive, and most of all fun. The objective is to re-introduce the basics of discipline as well as higher academic standards which was responsible for more stable learning environments in the past. After this foundation has been established, the means for a more dynamic learning environment can be created using a number of different methods. Among these methods includes the use of songs as in the case of Ron Clark’s method in his academy in Atlanta, Georgia or technology as used by Dr. Matthew Peterson in teaching “math without words.” The student-centered approach as suggested by Pestalozzi and Montessori
In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he discusses how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the child is enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believed that learning should begin at a young age, and that self education was the most proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent learning, Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. Although he felt structure was a necessary component to an ideal academic surrounding, schools should not be overly strict simply for the purpose of efficiency. Emerson’s idea of a personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented in our school district because it provides many benefits that our school does not currently offer due to its poor academic structure.
I believe that each child is unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment namely, the teacher acting guide, allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, promoting respect for all the things and all the people.
As an educator, it is my job to find new ways for my students to learn that coincides with their particular learning style and takes advantage of their strengths. In all practical terms, this will mean finding new ways for each of my students to learn in their own particular way. As a whole, my students will need more reason to learn with authentic experiences, hands-on
The philosophy of the primary school where I work is that every child's unique needs and abilities should and must be honored. Children's different learning needs and styles are incorporated into the curriculum. On an informal level, teachers are encouraged to make use of lesson plans that utilize different types of media and methods of evaluation. Lesson plans often make use of visual and kinesthetic aspects of the learning experience as well as more traditional methods that emphasize mathematical, spatial, and verbal intelligences.
Students have their own best way in effectively learning the lesson. With the diversity of students, the problem is each student has a preferred learning style. It becomes undeniably one of the reasons that make it difficult to achieve the best expected outcome out of teachers’ effort. However, teachers try to incorporate various teaching techniques to make every learning opportunity become productive, meaningful, and relevant for the learners.
Education serves as the foundation to a lifetime of learning. Since every child is unique, I believe that it is important for them to learn in an environment that is both secure and stimulating. By creating this type of atmosphere, the students will be able to realize their intelligence and use it constructively. As a future educator, it will be my goal to establish a classroom that is, 1) non-authoritarian, 2) student-centered, and 3) focused around student experience. These three elements are part of Progressivism, the educational philosophy I plan to incorporate in my classroom.
As an educator I want to provide the proper learning enchantments for my students. Students should enjoy math and understand that math comes from God’s words; the Bible. Psalm 90:12 says “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom”. .I want to engage students in hands-on differentiated actives, engaging lessons, and teaching up to date with technology and manipulatives. I don’t want to be known as a teacher that conducts boring lessons with only lecture and note taking from a textbook. What a neat concept through away
Lifelong learning is fostered when the teacher is a mentor and coach who shares an enthusiasm for learning. By demonstrating that fun and creativity are parts of learning, students will be able to find joy in learning. Instead of a behaviorist classroom of skill and drill and motivation based learning, a constructivist classroom is what I plan to implement. With a hands-on approach and self-discovery, constructivism focuses on the journey to discovery and the individual student. One aspect of learning I plan to implement in
Through this experience, I learned that is vitally important that children in school have a creative, stimulating classroom environment. Such an environment will stimulate their minds and make them much better learners and thinkers. The classroom environment should include lots of books, visual materials and different activities in order to help them learn the material as best as possible. All these requirement should be aimed at attracting and keeping the child’s interest and promoting questioning and discussion. Expecting children, particularly young ones, to sit at a desk all day and learn is not the way to go. Children, particularly young ones, need to move around and do different activities in order to keep them engaged. Having an environment where they are being taught in ways that are fun and reel them in, will stimulate the students to do well and strive to do better.
Many educators operate their classrooms using a “learning theory” that they feel optimizes the best learning environment for their students. As an educator it is very important to create your own customized learning theory to use in your classroom. A customized learning theory is developed to create an optimum learning environment for students. Educators have to research and put into practice the ideas that they feel may work best in their classroom. In this paper, I will be discussing my own customized learning theory incorporating theoretical perspectives that I believe make an ideal learning environment.
When I first become a teacher, I will set up my classroom with table in a group collaboration, but will also be easily utilized for individual learning. Students will have many opportunities to express themselves in many ways like independently and in a group setting. Students will also receive extrinsic motivation while learning how to motivate themselves intrinsically through a gained value and ownership of their own education.
Because education is one of the most important aspects of a child’s life, it is necessary to make sure you build the right kind of learning environment. In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he discusses how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the child is enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believes that self-education is the most proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent learning, Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. His idea of a personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented throughout Appoquinimink School District
She was faced with the challenge of teaching a wide range of learner pathways while striving to maximize the learning for all her students grades first through eighth. While what my grandmother faced over eighty years ago is an obvious exaggeration in differentiation; the reality is that each class room in our schools is a microcosm of that environment. Each student learns through different pathways and it is the role of each teacher to maximize their learning potential by differentiating their instructional practices. Hence, the teachers of my school must strive to connect students and academic content through a responsive instructional practice that is reflective of the needs of their students (Tomlinson, C., Brimijoin, K., & Narvaez, L.,
My role as a teacher is to assist and offer activities that enhance academic, social and emotional development by using strategies that incorporate all learning styles. Curriculum should be student centered and the student must play a part in their own learning process. To facilitate meeting the educational goals of my students my instructions must be clear and uncomplicated when delivering a lesson. Integrating and accommodating a classroom of students from a variety of backgrounds and proficiency levels can be challenging. Therefore, it will be my responsibility to determine individual learning styles. Furthermore, assessments and observations will provide me the opportunity to choose curriculum and experiences that take into account each student’s instructional needs. In order for students to develop intellectually they need opportunities to discover for themselves and practice in authentic situation that improve their own unique abilities. Presenting young students with unconventional means for acquiring knowledge (e.g. internet access, iPads) and allowing learners a number of ways to demonstrate what they have learned, will motivate them to respect and support their own
Everyday, teachers are faced with the challenge of teaching students new information that is valuable to their future. Teachers are responsible to determine what and how information is taught. How this information is taught to students is pertinent to their success; therefore, teachers must be able to use effective teaching methods in the classroom. Students have diverse learning styles; therefore, teachers need to determine how students learn best and pattern their teaching to accommodate these differences. During elementary school, children learn to read and write, acquire a basic understanding of content areas, and develop dispositions toward
