This has become more apparent in recent years where films even have their own social media accounts to share and update fans with anything related to the film itself whether it be interviews with the cast, trailers, movie posters, or just to simply interact with their fans. Some movie critics claim that social media is ruining the movie industry because films tend to get too much coverage which leads to spoilers getting revealed before the film releases. However, I believe that social media is not only a positive for the movie industry it’s an innovation because it’s a cheap and effective way to generate buzz for a film, it allows the fans to feel more connected with the movie they’re planning to see, and individuals can easily voice their opinion about a flick whether it be positive or negative.

Moving forward, social media has been a major convenience and reward to virtually everyone. On an individual basis, social media allows friends and family both near and far to communicate with one another. Also, businesses are flourishing through the use of social media. Advertising has never been easier. Horn (2013) states, “Our profession, unlike any time before, is demanding we become social media (…) experts” (1). Horn (2013) also states, “More than half of reporters (55 percent) use Twitter and Facebook to source stories” (1). Social media has greatly benefited business life and personal life.

Social Media is “one of the hottest emerging industry trends- social tv.” This is characterized by customers using social networks to interact with other viewers about the program they are watching. The social buzz can drive ratings. Social Media links that will be implemented are Facebook which will be devoted to customer comments on news and other  WPTV media. Twitter will be devoted to news that is intended to be passed around quickly. You tube will be used for audio and video clips.

As the visual arts intern at Blue medium—one of the leading art PR firms in NYC—my experience has taught me aspects I could have never learned at a typical PR agency or traditional art institutions. By helping with several ongoing projects of big clients, such as IFPDA Print Fair, The Museum of the Moving Image and Albertz Benda gallery, I learned how an art PR firm operates and how to conduct a comprehensive marketing strategy for arts institutions.
