Creating a Sense of Nostalgia
Walt Disney’s remarkable legacy that he’s left behind includes all of his creations through the 20th century. His cartoon films and theme parks have targeted a young audience and most of us can recall watching Disney movies at a young age according to Barrier, “Practically everyone knows Disney the corporation, the movies, the theme parks…” or going to Disneyland or Walt Disney World for the first time when we were little (Barrier 152). Sometimes we get caught up in a hectic life and we lose sight of our own happiness. Revisiting these old times such as watching a Disney movie that you used to at a young age or spending some time in one of Walt’s theme parks brings a sense of nostalgia. For a brief moment you are taken back and remember that life is not so bad and you are emerged in happiness. Typically, we tend to have good memories connected with those films or theme parks, because as a child, responsibilities and worries didn't exist yet and times were much simpler.

Tracey Mollet’s view over Disney’s positive influence is interesting. I understand how she feels like these positive and happy ending stories shed light on a depressing time in America. In my opinion it also glorified the idea of the existence of “American dream” and what exactly it looks like. A man by the name of Walt Disney, is the ideal symbol of an American hero. Disney is known to bring inspiration and imagination into many of his productions. Disneyland, the happiest place on earth, was built by Disney in the late forties. As the founder of Walt Disney Company, and a producer, he has collected a record of fifty- nine nominations as an Academy Award winner, winning thirty-two awards, and still holding the record. At sixty-five, Disney died of lung cancer, leaving behind the Florida theme park to not be completed by him, more known as Disney World. Every hero faces three challenging stages in his or her life, and for Walt disney, he will be introduced in his ordinary world, achieve a goal, and follow a path that is not always direct or clear.

The history of how The Walt Disney Company came to be started from a small individual who enjoyed drawing and used art as a way to escape reality, his name was Walt Disney. After the World War 1 ended, Disney went to Kansas City where he later created an animated company that went bankruptcy. Walt Disney moved to Hollywood where he met M.J Winkler a distributor, Disney become part of her production partner. (The Walt Disney Company) In 1927 Disney created a series where the distributor copyright the main character and Disney only made a few hundred dollars, therefore Disney decide to leave and created that same series with a different name which was Mickey Mouse. Disney decided to go with his brother Roy and created Mickey Mouse films. When Disney wanted to put out Steamboat Willie many film producers did not like the film’s idea until Pat Powers decided to release the film in theaters. The film gave Disney enough money to start on other projects which later those project turn out to be such as the amusement parks, merchandise, etc. In December 15, 1966 Walt Disney died from Lung Cancer, Disney’s brother Roy made sure that Disney’s believes and philosophy about the company would still be passed on by the company 's employee. Walt Disney Films are known to be as an incredible and outstanding fantasy stories producer. It created more than a hundred of films. Majority of what has been produced rely on fictional stories. The films that were released used animation to capture children’s interest and musically performed as well. My favorite Disney Memory is the first time I visited Disneyland at Los Angeles, California. I was in 4th grade and I went with my mom and aunt. I absolutely loved very character walking down the street and dancing. I really loved the Haunted Mansion attraction; it was one of the best. The best thing I’ve seen was the midnight parade with the fireworks and the musical show they perform. It really made me happy and makes me happy now of just thinking about it.
Disney’s target audience was young -and children were much more apparent than before, due to the postwar baby-boom-, so by filling his projects with good values and happiness he was able to instill them into his audience at a young age.
