What Does Organic Mean?

Which meal would you give your family? Would you choose the industrial meal, the industrial organic meal, the local sustainable meal, or the hunter gatherer meal? All these meals are great, but they are all different. I would feed my family the industrial organic meal. What does organic mean? “Anything grown without the help of fossil fuels, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers(Pollan, 112).” Pesticides and fossil fuels are harming the world. They are both bad for the environment, for the plants, for the animals, and for us.Another example is ”This reveals that fossil fuels can kill us and the environment.Organic crops must be grown in safe soil, have no modifications, and must remain separate from conventional products. An example of this is “ I know the dinner i prepared contained little or no pesticides. These chemicals have been proven to cause cancer,damage nerve cells, and disrupt your endocrine system- your hormones” (Pollan,133). This shows that organic food doesn’t have many pesticides-if not any. Why would anyone want to eat food that can cause cancer?“In 2003, a study by University of California, Davis, researchers studied two crops of corn,strawberries, and blackberries. The plants were identical and grown in side-by-side plots. One set of plants was grown using organic methods. The other set was grown conventionally with chemical fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides. The study showed that the organic fruits and vegetables contained higher levels of vitamin C. They also had a wider range of natural chemicals called polyphenols. Polyphenols are a group of chemicals made by plants that seem to play an important role in human health. Some help prevent or fight cancer: others fight infections(Pollan 134-135).” This shows how much pesticides effect the plants. If there were no pesticides both plants would have vitamin C and polyphenols.If the organic meal gives you Vitamin C and polyphenols, you might as well eat
