To build a professional relationship with a client or care user a care worker uses these skills to create a comfortable atmosphere and to show the client that he/she is interested in what that client has to say. This allows the client to feel comfortable with the carer meaning that the client will talk to the care worker, feel confident, relaxed and valued as a person. Communication is everywhere. We, as interactive human beings, spend the majority of our time corresponding with others to satisfy our physical, identity, social, and practical needs (Adler, Rodman, & Sevigny, 2011). Often, this is consciously done; we search our minds for the accurate linguistic means to express our experiences, and use them to communicate with those around us. However, communication is not as straightforward and effortless as we may believe. It is, in fact, often unintentional, with 65% of it occurring as a result of non-verbal cues (Matsumoto, Shibata, Seiji, Mori, & Shioe, 2010). As mentioned by Marta Dynel (2011) in a study done on nonverbal communication, “Non verbal signs and signals ... are prevalent practically in

Also, it is important to keep the information safe because it could mean the clients safety could be put at risk if the information becomes public knowledge.
An individual’s background can influence their communication methods in many ways. Such as the way someone has been brought up, their different values in life, their relationships with family members. These can all be a factor to how they communicate with others. These factors can effect communication because if their relationships have been quite hard and they do not see their own families much, the individual will find it difficult to trust and open up to the care managers at the nursing home. This will make it hard for the care managers to get to know the real them and it will be difficult to recognize any problems that appear. Also it depends what the individual’s medical history is. They could be on a type of medication which effects there communication. They could suffer from having dementia or a stroke, there for this can effort your communication massively. With all three factors you might have to use simple sentences or even using picture cards as the individual might find it easier to understand what you’re

Interacting with them on a day to day basis, I know how is best to communicate with each resident as each person communicates differently. Residents with dementia need a lot of prompting when communicating and clear slow language must be used calmly to avoid any confusion or upset. Some residents I need to speak louder too and others may need visual prompts such as gestures or written communication.
