A starter cranks, but cranks slowly. The shop performs a voltage drop on the ground and power side of the starter circuit and they both test good. Technician A says the battery may be bad. Technician B says the starter may be bad. Who is correct?

Step 1

A starter is a mechanical device which is used to rotate the crank of an internal combustion engine. The main purpose of the starting system is to provide the torque to give the minimum speed to the engine.

Step 2

Since the starting system circuit has the highest electrical circuit in the electrical system within machine. It is to be noted that that the battery cables and connections that run between the battery systems must be in good condition. Any bad condition of electrical circuit will create excessive resistance, which will turns into a voltage drop and slow cranking. Battery cables are made large to give very little resistance to current flow. Usually, this resistance is less than 1 milliohm.
