Textbook Question
Chapter 1, Problem 4TBP
History may not be your favorite subject, especially learning about a bunch of long-dead scientists who made discoveries that we now take for granted. With an open mind, you may actually find the information interesting and learn a few things you didn’t know before.
During your examination of the topics in this chapter, consider the following:
How does awareness how diseases are spread help to break the chain of infection?

The chain of infection is an important aspect of life for everyone, especially those who work in the health care field. It is up to everyone to do what they can in order to break the chain of infection, as an intact chain of infection is how small disease outbreaks turn into large outbreaks, and short hospital stays turn into long ones.
For this week's forum, please answer the following questions in your initial post:
1. Study the chain of infection, and in what place(s) do you think it might be the easiest to break the chain of infection? Please provide reasons to support your assertions.
2. If you are a patient in the hospital, what makes it more likely that you might contract a disease?
3. What are the responsibilities of the health care providers to prevent you from contracting a disease in the hospital?
Which stage most appropriately relates to you as a healthcare provider? How could you interrupt the cycle?
Given the recent outbreak of Coronavirus, what are the standard precautions that a healthcare professional should follow?
List 4 types of personal protective equipment (PPE).
For infectious diseases to spread, several necessary steps must occur. These steps, or stages, are known as the infection cycle. Each stage or step in the infectious process must occur for the spread of infection to take place. Infection control is based on the fact that the transmission of infectious diseases will be prevented when any of the levels in the cycle are broken or interrupted (see the “Breaking the Infection Cycle” Quick Reference Guide). The steps are:
Infectious agent
Reservoir
Portal of exit
Means of transmission
Portal of entry
Susceptible host
Statement 1: Fever is a sign of pathogen infection.
Statement 2: Vasodilation is a type of immune response that can cause redness and swelling at the infection site.
Statement 1 is true. Statement 2 is false.
Statement 2 is true. Statement 1 is false.
Both statements are true.
Both statements are false.

Her work not only brought her fame but her death as well; she developed aplastic anemia due to radiation exposure. She experienced recurrent and prolonged infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic, and fungal). Bone marrow transplant was not an option at that time and so blood transfusion was the treatment of choice. Explain the reasoning behind these other signs and symptoms that Curie experienced.
