Concept introduction: The cells undergo changes in response to physiological or pathological stimuli. Any kind of cellular change or damage due to injury, invasion by pathogens, or malnutrition may affect the whole body.

To give: The definition of the term gangrene.
Concept introduction: When a cell injury is caused due to a stimulus, it initially causes loss of function in the cell. If the stimulus causing damage remains in the cell, it causes continuous damage and may lead to cell death. The continuous and irreversible accumulation of cell damage results in death of cells referred as necrosis.
