To confirm that the correct drug is given, the nurse should check the drug order against the medication label or profile before giving the drug. For administration of the medication first check the drug name and if the doubt occurs immediately contact the pharmacist or prescriber. The law should be signed by the prescriber for all the medication prescriptions or orders and also signed the verbal order within 24 hours if it is given. During emergencies and time-sensitive patient care situations, verbal and telephones are used. The nurse should be aware in the current knowledge about the generic name of the drug and trade name of the drugs that help to reduce the risk of drug errors because the trade name and generic name of the single drug has the same spelling that increases the medication errors. Therefore, for reducing the medication errors and the patient safety, it is recommended to use the generic name of the drug. Right dose: The dosage should be identified from the prescriber at whatever time the medication is ordered and always confirm the dose and check that is suitable for the age and size of the patient. In addition, recheck the mathematical calculation and also pay attention to decimal points. The zeros before decimal are allowed, and zeros following decimal points are avoided. For the dosage adjustment to particular parameters assess the patient variables such as vital signs, gender, age, weight, and height carefully. Use extra cautions to the pediatric and elderly patients because there are more sensitive to the drugs when compared to the middle and young age patients. Right time: All the health care institutions and agencies have the policy regarding the administration of medication.
