a. To create a new project named “TextingProject” in Visual Studio 2017, and make initial settings for form.vb Solution Explorer is located on the right-hand side of the window. Expand the TextingProject folder, and locate the file Form1.vb as shown in Fig 1-8.1. Right-click on Form1.vb and select the option Rename to rename it to MainForm.vb. Fig 1-8.1 Now, the file Form1.vb is renamed to MainForm.vb and is shown in Fig 1-8.2. Fig 1-8.2 Now, locate the Properties window and change the Name property to frmMain and Font property to SegoeUI, 9pt as shown in Fig 1-8.3. Fig 1-8.3 In the Properties window, change the MaximizeBox property to False, the StartPosition property to CentreScreen, and Text property to Text Message Symbols as shown in Fig 1-8.3. Fig 1-8.4 b. To create a new project named “TextingProject” in Visual Studio 2017, and make initial settings for form.vb From the Toolbox, insert six picture boxes, a label control, and a button as shown in Fig 1-8.5. Change the image property of each picture box to include an image as shown below: Fig 1-8.5 Click on the Image property of the picture box and select the Resource context option Local resource as shown in Fig 1-8.6. Now, click on the Import button to open the file browser dialog and select the file BFF.png located in the Chap01 folder. Click OK twice to close the dialogs. To create a new project named “TextingProject” in Visual Studio 2017, and make initial settings for form.vb In the Properties window of Label, change the Name property to lblMeaning, AutoSize property to False, and BorderStyle property to FixedSingle as shown in Fig 1-8.9. Fig 1-8.10 Change the TextAlign property of the label as MiddleCenter and remove all the text in the Text property of the label as shown in Fig 1-8.11. Now, click on the Lock Controls option to lock all the UI controls inside the form. Press Ctrl+Shit+S to save all the files in the project and run the application since MainForm.vb is the only form in the project. Run the project.
