A researcher wants to investigate whether a daily corn-based diet supplemented with powdered milk would increase the daily weight gain of growing calves.
What is the Independent and Dependent variable of this experiment?
A researcher assessed body weight in a community using two methods. First, participants were asked, “Do you think you are overweight?” (Possible answers: ‘yes’ or ‘no’). All participants were then weighed and classified as ‘overweight’ or not. The assessment was however done separately by hypertensive status. Among 270 hypertensive participants, 108 were classified as overweight on the basis of being weighed. Of these 108, 54 reported themselves as overweight when questioned. Of the 162 participants not classified as overweight on the basis of being weighed 16 reported themselves as overweight when questioned. Among 745 non-hypertensive participants, 134 were classified as overweight on the basis of being weighed. Of these 134, 118 reported themselves as overweight when questioned. Of the 611 participants who were not classified as overweight on being weighed, 110 reported themselves as overweight on questioning.

A study is done to examine whether there is an association between the daily use of vitamins C & E and risk of coronary artery disease (heart attacks) over a 10 year period. When subjects who took both vitamins were compared to those who took not vitamins at all, the risk ratio was found to be 0.70. Which of the following is a correct interpretation of this finding? Answer and explain.
a. The incidence of coronary artery disease in those who take vitamins C & E daily is 0.70 (or 70%)
b. Those who take vitamins C & E daily have 0.7 times the risk of heart attack compared to those who do not take vitamins
c.The risk difference in this study is 70 per 100 vitamin users over ten years
d. The odds ratio in this study is 70 per 100 vitamin users over ten years
e. The risk difference in this study is 0.70 per 100 vitamin users over ten years
