Little-known fact The shortest day of the year occurs on the winter solstice (near December 21) and the longest day of the year occurs on the summer solstice (near June 21). However, the latest sunrise and the earliest sunset do not occur on the winter solstice, and the earliest sunrise and the latest sunset do not occur on the summer solstice. At latitude 40° north, the latest sunrise occurs on January 4 at 7:25 A.M. (14 days after the solstice), and the earliest sunset occurs on December 7 at 4:37 P.M. (14 days before the solstice). Similarly, the earliest sunrise occurs on July 2 at 4:30 A.M. (14 days after the solstice) and the latest sunset occurs on June 7 at 7:32 P.M. (14 days before the solstice). Using sine functions, devise a function S(t) that gives the time of sunrise t days after January 1 and a function S(t) that gives the time of sunset t days after January 1. Assume s and S are measured in minutes and that s = 0 and S = 0 correspond to 4:00 A.M. Graph the functions. Then graph the length of the day function

- A. Through how many radians does the minute hand of a clock sweep between 9:05 pm and 9:30 pm?arrow_forwardCan you please explain what this question is asking me to do and how to solve it?arrow_forwardA pedestal is 5.43 feet tall, and a statue is placed on top of it. A spotlight on the floor lights up the pedestal and statue. [a] The angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is 57 degrees , and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is 71 degrees .How tall is the statue ?Your final answer must be an exact value (ie. do not use your calculator).Your final answer may involve fractions, radicals, angles and/or trigonometric functions and the decimal number given in the problem. HINT: You will need to calculate another quantity first. [b]Using your calculator, round the answer to [a] to 2 decimal places. [c] The pedestal is replaced with a pedestal of a different height, with the same statue placed on top of it.The spotlight is moved and tilted so that the angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is now 41 degrees , and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is now 64 degrees…arrow_forward
