Dollar General Corporation operates deep-discount stores offering housewares, cleaning supplies, clothing, health and beauty aids, and packaged food, with most items selling for $1. Its business model calls for keeping costs as low as possible. The company has no automated method for keeping track of inventory at each store. Managers know approximately how many cases of a particular product the store is supposed to receive when a delivery truck arrives, but the stores lack technology for scanning the cases or verifying the item count inside the cases. Merchandise losses from theft or other mishaps have been rising and now represent over 3 percent of total sales.
What decisions must be made before investing in an information system solution?
Draw an ER model based on following scenario.A travel agency has different bus stations at different location. Each station has a unique name, locationand buses. Each bus has a unique bus number, color and type. The bus takes routes between stations. Each route has a name, arrival time and departure time. A single bus can take routes to different stations. Some buses may not take any route in some days however a station must have a route each day. Eachbus contains seats. Each seat has unique number, row and seat type. There are three different types ofseats as first class, standard and economy. Passengers can make reservations. Passenger has id number, full name, age, gender and address. Each reservation will have a unique reservation number, fare, dateand time. Each reservation can have any numbers of seats. The reservation is dependent on passenger.
Damon Davis was creating the Drano Plumbing Company's spreadsheet. He determined that the net income would be $50,000. When he tallied the columns on the Balance Sheet, the totals were as follows: debit, $400,000; and credit, $300,000. What was the most likely reason for this discrepancy? If this was not the case, how should he proceed to determine the source of the error?

- The scenario is for a small life insurance agency and their need to keep track of clients, agents, insurers, and quotations. 1) A Client is a customer, potential customer, or contact of the agency. We need to assign each client a number and save their last name, first name, birth date, gender, telephone number, email address, and the agent who brought the client into the agency. If a client is a “walk in” they are assigned to the first available agent. All clients must have one primary agent. 2) An agent is a licensed individual with the state. Each agent has a nationally unique license number, last name, first name, telephone number, and email address. An agent must be the primary agent for at least one client but may not be primary for more than 500 clients. An agent must also be part of at least one quotation and may share in an unlimited number of quotes. 3) The agency represents (does business with) many insurance companies (insurers). - As the head buyer for a major supermarket chain, you are constantly being asked by manufacturers and distributors to stock their new products. Over 50 new items are introduced each week. Many times, these products are launched with national advertising campaigns and special promotional allowances to retailers. To add new products, the amount of linear shelf space allocated to existing products must be reduced or items must be eliminated altogether. Develop a simple spreadsheet DSS program that you can use to estimate the change in profits from adding or deleting an item from inventory. Your analysis should include input such as estimated weekly sales in units, the amount of linear shelf space allocated to stock an item (measured in inches), total cost per unit, and sales price per unit. Your analysis should calculate total annual profit by item and then sort the rows in descending order based on total annual profit.arrow_forwardA company has various rules for how payments to suppliers are to be authorized. Some payments are in response to an approved purchase order. Payments for approved purchase orders over $10,000 alwaysrequire the approval of the accounting manager to issue the check as well as the signature of two accounting clerks. Payments thatare not covered by a purchase order that areunder $5,000 must be approved by the accounting manager and a departmental manager who will absorb the cost of the paymentinto that department’s budget.
