The television show Lett3rs has been successful for many years. That show recently had a share of 19, which means, that among the TV sets in use, 19% were tuned to Lett3rs. An advertiser wants to verify that 19% share value by conducting its own survey, and a pilot survey begins with 10 households have TV sets in use at the time of a Lett3rs broadcast.
If at most one household is tuned to Lett3rs, does it appear that the 19% share value is wrong? (Hint: Is the occurrence of at most one household tuned to Lett3rs unusual?)
A. no, it is not wrongB. yes, it is wrong
In the oil-wildcatting problem (book chapter 7), suppose that the company could collect information from a drilling core sample and analyze it to determine whether a dome structure exists at Site 1. A positive result would indicate the presence of a dome, and a negative result would indicate the absence of a dome. The test is not perfect, however. The test is highly accurate for detecting a dome; if there is a dome, then the test shows a positive result 99% of the time. On the other hand, if there is no dome, the probability of a negative result is only 0.85. Thus, P(+ | Dome) = 0.99 and P(- | No Dome) = 0.85. Use these probabilities, the information given in the example, and Bayes' theorem to find the posterior probabilities P(Dome | +) and P(Dome | -). If the test gives a positive result, which site should be selected? Calculate expected values to support your conclusion! If the test result is negative, which site should be chosen? Again, calculate expected values
A polling organization has been hired to conduct a survey to determine the proportion of people who are likely to support an upcoming ballot initiative. To help determine the size of the sample required for the main poll, a preliminary poll of 20 people is taken that yields the results below. Answer the following questions ( please answer all the parts 1,2 and 3): 1) What is the probability that among 10 true hypertensives at least 50% are being treated appropriately and are complying with this treatment?2) What is the probability that at least 7 of the 10 hypertensives know they have high blood pressure? 3) If the preceding 50% rates were each reduced to 40% by a massive education program, then what effect would this change have on the overall mortality rate among true hypertensives; that is, would the mortality rate decrease…arrow_forwardFor the queation- "In fact, some new research suggests that to ensure a productive conversation the maximum message length should be no more than 8 words greater than the minimum message length in any conversation." Use SAS to complete each problem below. (a) It is believed that about 4% of controls live close to the plant and the OR that investigators would be interested in detecting is 3.5. Assuming that a 2-sided, 5% level test will be conducted, what power will the test have for detecting a significant association between cancer and proximity to the power plant?
