A uniform, 0.0300-kg rod of length 0.400 in rotates in a horizontal plane about a fixed axis through its center and perpendicular to the rod. Two small rings, each with mass 0.0200 kg, are mounted so that they can slide along the rod. They are initially held by catches al positions 0.0500 m on each side of the center of the rod, and the system is rotating at 48.0 rev/min. With no other changes in the system, the catches are released, and the rings slide outward along the rod and fly off at the ends. What is the angular speed (a) of the system at the instant when the rings reach the ends of the rod; (b) of the rod after the rings leave it?

- A uniform rod of mass 190 g and length 100 cm is free to rotate in a horizontal plane around a fixed vertical axis through its center, perpendicular to its length. Two small beads, each of mass 24 g, are mounted in grooves along the rod. Initially, the two beads are held by catches on opposite sides of the rod's center, 12 cm from the axis of rotation. With the beads in this position, the rod is rotating with an angular velocity of 15.0 rad/s. When the catches are released, the beads slide outward along the rod. (a)What is the rod's angular velocity (in rad/s) when the beads reach the ends of the rod? (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) _______ rad/s (b)What is the rod's angular velocity (in rad/s) if the beads fly off the rod? (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) ________rad/sarrow_forwardA solid cylinder of radius 0.300 [m] is wrapped with a massless string. Holding the free end of the string stationary, the cylinder is dropped from a heightof 2.00 [m] from the ground. Right before it hits the ground, the cylinder was found to have an angular velocity of 3.00 [rad/s]. Assuming that the string does not slip or stretch as the cylinder descends and rotates, what is the angular acceleration of the cylinder?arrow_forwardA uniform rod with a mass of 100 g and a length of 50.0 cm rotates in a horizontal plane about a fixed vertical, frictionless pin passing through the center of the rod. Two small beads, each having a mass of 30.0 g, are mounted on the rod so that they are able to slide without friction along its length. Initially, the beads are held by catches at positions 10.0 cm on each side of the rod’s center; at this time, the system rotates at an angular speed of 20.0 rad/s. Suddenly, the catches are released, and the small beads slide outward along the rod. Find (a) the angular speed of the system at the instant the beads reach the end of the rod and (b) the angular speed of the rod after the beads fly off the rod’s ends.arrow_forward
- The flywheel turns clockwise with a constant speed of 690 rev/min and the connecting rod AB slides through the pivoted collar at C. For the position ? = 59°, determine the angular velocity ?AB of AB by using the relative velocity relations. (Suggestion: Choose a point D on AB coincident with C as a reference point whose direction of velocity is known.)arrow_forwardIn the assembly below the system can rotate around the vertical axis. The left part is a square where R = 0.1 meters, and the mass of each of the four thin bars is uniform and is 0.1 kg. On the left is a massive sphere of radius R = 0.2 meters and Mass M = 0.3 kg. Assume that the system rotates with constant period T = 2.0 s, when, without any external action, as three leftmost bars detach from the system, leaving only the right vertical bar (on the axis) and sphere . What will be the new period of system revolution? Note: Note that in this case there is no difference between angular velocity and frequency.arrow_forwardSphere A, with a mass of m₁ = 3.00 kg and radius of r = 50.0 mm, is initially pushed to the left imparting a linear velocity of v_o 4.00 m/s. The sphere rolls with sliding until time t when it stabilizes and rolls without sliding. The coefficient of sliding friction between the sphere and the floor is µ = 0.250. Assume that the linear and angular acceleration of the sphere is uniformly accelerated before reaching time t. Determine the angular acceleration of the sphere, and the time t at which the sphere will start rolling without sliding.arrow_forward

How many revolutions does it make after a retarding force of 0.5 N is applied to the outer surface?arrow_forwardA 1.25 kg solid, uniform sphere rolls without slipping across a level surface, translating at 4.00 m/s. At time t = 0, the reference lines of the two disks have the same orientation. Disk A is already rotating, with a constant angular velocity of 9.5 rad/s. Disk B has been stationary but now begins to rotate at a constant angular acceleration of 2.2 rad/s2.
