Concept explainers
To identify:
The three types of muscles present in the body
Introduction:
Muscle tissue is one of the four primary tissue types. These tissues have the ability to receive and respond to stimuli. They can shorten themselves forcibly, and can be stretched or extended. These tissues have the ability to recoil and resume the original resting length.
Explanation of Solution
The muscle tissues contain muscle cells, which have the characteristic to contract according to the requirement.
The three types of muscle tissues are:
Skeletal muscle tissue: These muscle tissues enable the body to move by supporting and pulling up the bones. These tissues are composed of connective tissues, nerves and blood vessels.
Cardiac muscle tissue: These muscle tissues are responsible for pumping of blood. These tissues are present only in the heart, and perform involuntary function of blood pumping.
Smooth muscle tissue: These muscle tissues are responsible for pushing fluids and solids along the digestive tract and other internal organs, and they also regulate diameters of arteries. These tissues perform involuntary functions by regulating internal organs activity.
The three types of muscles, which are present in the human body are: skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle.
