To determine:
The muscle fibers that are present in the legs of a person who excels in endurance activities such as cycling or long distance running.
Introduction:
There are three types of muscle fibers that are present in skeletal muscle tissue namely fast fibers, slow fibers and the intermediate fibers. Fast fibers are those fibers that can contract quickly as the stimulation is reached. Slow fibers take more time to reach the tense state in comparison to fast fibers and the intermediate fibers share the characteristics of both slow and fast fibers.
