Question
Chapter 10, Problem 32CT
Summary Introduction
To review:
The rationale behind severe bleeding in case of a cleanly severed artery leading to death as compared to a crushed and torn artery.
Introduction:
A continuous supply of blood is essential to the body as it provides nourishment and oxygen. The brain can get into a coma if it is deprived of oxygen for more than 30 seconds. The blood loss can lead to severe health problems and death in severe cases. To avoid this, the body has a defense mechanism known as hemostasis or blood clotting mechanism. It may not be helpful in every case, especially if an artery is cut clean, like with a surgical blade.
