Introduction

Splenius capitis is a neck muscle it is used in the movements of the head. It is a strap-like muscle that is present in the back of the neck. It is used to pull the muscles of the upper thorax and the muscles present in the base of the skull. It arises from the 7th cervical vertebra and upper 3 to 4 thoracic vertebrae. It is used in the rotation and flexion of the cervical spine. It helps for the extension of the neck and it protects the vertebrae.
