An article in Biotechnology Progress [“Optimization of Conditions for Bacteriocin Extraction in PEG/Salt Aqueous Two-Phase Systems Using Statistical Experimental Designs” (2001, Vol. 17, pp. 366–368)] reported an experiment to investigate and optimize the extraction of nisin in aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS). Nisin recovery was the dependent variable (y). The two regressor variables were the concentration (%) of PEG 4000 (indicated as x1) and the concentration (%) of Na2SO4 (indicated as x2). The data is shown below. a) Find the fit parameters of the proposed model. b) Establish, by means of a hypothesis test, if the regression is significant. c) State, if the regression coefficients are significant. d) Evaluate R2 as well as R_adjusted^2. e) Construct and analyze the residual plot.
A researcher wants to determine the causal relationship among number of family members who are at least high school graduate (W), number of working family members (X), monthly gross income (Y), monthly expenditure (Z), and average monthly bank deposits (A). A random sample of 20 families was selected and the data on the variables were collected (see household.xslx). Consider the following path diagram:  1. Set-up the structural equations.  Consider the R outputs from the conducted path analysis.   2. Identify the factors affecting the endogenous variables. Leave blank if variable is exogenous.  W: ____________ X: ____________ Y: ____________ Z: ____________ A: ____________ 3. Illustrate the output path diagram including the estimated path coefficients.
Here are some data I found on the enzyme activity of mannose-6-phosphate isomerase (MPI) and MPI genotypes in the amphipod crustacean Platorchestia platensis. Because I didn't know whether sex also affected MPI activity, I separated the amphipods by sex. F and S stand for fast and slow respectively, and have to do with electrophoretic mobility on an agarose gel. FF, FS, and SS then reflect genotypes with FS being the heterozygote. Consider the numbers to be activity units. Analysis these data with the appropriate two-way ANOVA and state your conclusions below.              Genotype Female Male   FF 2.838 1.884     4.216 2.283     2.889 4.939     4.198 3.486   FS 3.55 2.396     4.556 2.956     3.087 3.105     1.943 2.649   SS 3.62 2.801     3.079 3.421     3.586 4.275     2.669 3.11   I use excel for this question
